I think the “dark history” is that RH wanted to steal the elixir for his own selfish reasons, the gold Rumple was going to give him. Instead he learned that he should steal for others. So his dark past is that he once stole for himself–it matches what RH told us in 4A when he told Will how he and Marian met.
If that’s the complete dark history….then that has got to be the worst overhyped origin story since Maleficent’s. I’m trying to keep faith that there’s more to it…like before he married Marian.

Different people are going to perceive what they deem is dark based on their own experiences. For Robin, stealing for himself vs. stealing to help other people — that’s dark stuff. But to us, it’s nothing really.

Basically that. Robin thinks it’s dark but for someone like Regina or Robin, that’s an easy day.

I agree. I think the “dark past” is pre-Marian. However, I don’t think Robin has ever done something truly heinous either and that he was probably exaggerating a little bit. At worst, I think Robin did something which led to somebody’s death rather than Robin directly causing their death. As @obisgirl said, dark is relative.

You don’t think Robin could have killed anyone? He almost killed Regina the first time they met in Storybrooke when he thought she was the Wicked Witch. I totally think he has killed before. Might have been self defense, but he’s not afraid of violence. Even now.
Idk. I just don’t see Robin Hood as this super gallant guy. He has a code, but ultimately is a person who breaks the law for a living. What would that same person be willing to do without that code? I think thats the ‘dark past’.
April 15, 2015 at 9:56 pm #301723obisgirlParticipantI’m not even sure if Robin’s ever killed anyone. At all. I think if someone close to him dies (like Marian did), even if he wasn’t directly responsible, we’ve seen he’s the kind of person who will blame himself for it.
I would think if he did actually kill someone, even if it was say self-defense, he would blame himself but it wouldn’t be his fault. Because again, self-defense. We see that even in our world with court cases.

I just don’t see Sean’s Robin as the killer type. To be honest, he’s a bit of a wimp, especially when it comes to making a difficult decision. Robin likes to hide behind his “code” when it suits him.
That’s not to say that Robin isn’t a good person or doesn’t have a good heart, he just seems like the type that would sit back and let other people do the morally dubious things for the greater good.

While I agree I don’t think Robin’s a murderer, I very much think that he would have zero problems killing someone to a) get out of a bind b) self- defense. We’ve seen him draw weapons on Rumple, Regina, and Zelena. Pretty sure he actually DID shoot Rumple. He almost beat up the thief in New York. He told Regina he would be happy to have ‘more than a conversation’ with the Author.
To be honest, he’s a bit of a wimp, especially when it comes to making a difficult decision.
He might waffle in his romantic relationships but I can’t recall him having a hard time making a difficult decision. He made a clear cut with Will when he put the Merry Men in harms way. He went to great lengths to save Marian by stealing from Rumple. He sat on the war council in the EF despite Regina’s attitude problem and contributed helpful advice. He joined the hunt for the Wicked Witch AND the Snow Queen. He also helped Regina with the plan to protect her heart from Zelena.
April 16, 2015 at 5:30 pm #301783RumplesGirlKeymasterGuys, keep in mind. Every interview that talked about RH’s dark past was meant for 417. They said his dark past would be shown in 417–so the story we got is what was the interviews meant. Doesn’t mean the writers can’t flesh it out *more* in later times, but for what we were told in interviews, the dark past is that he was not a thief who stole for others.
