Matt’s Inside Line: Regina’s Shaky Redemption
Once Upon a Time | Since many – myself included – have speculated that Cora cast some sort of spell on her daughter, and that’s why Regina seems to have abandoned her redemption tour, I asked the series’ creators if we are onto something. Short answer: Nope. As Eddy Kitsis reminds, “In Episode 9, we saw Regina say, ‘I have to kill you, Mother. Your grip on my heart is too strong.’ So while the audience is right to be wary of Cora, and Regina is right to be wary of her mother’s true intentions, we can never forget how important the need to get your mom’s approval and love is.” Adam Horowitz meanwhile offered this teaser for fans of Lana Parrilla’s ever-unpredictable alter ego: “We’re going to see some Regina unleashed!” http://tvline.com/2013/02/28/once-upon-time-castle-scandal-spoilers/I think we confirmation that the Evil Queen is Regina.

And really, who can blame Lana for wanting that. 😆 I reckon they’re both too utterly damaged in exactly the same way, so they couldn’t really have an emotionally healthy relationship. They’d be a hot couple for a fling though, and Regina does have a thing for scruffy Irishmen. 😉

March 9, 2013 at 5:18 pm #178490SlurpeezParticipantRegina and Killian may both be “emotionally damaged” from tragically losing people they loved, but then again, so are Baelfire and Emma scarred from feelings of abandonment. It doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be good together in the long run. Rather than preventing people from moving on, sometimes it helps if two people have common experiences; in losing love and rediscovering it in one another, it could actually help them move on in a healthy, positive way. I could see it happening if Regina realizes evil doesn’t satisfy her need for love and family and likewise Killian realizes that revenge doesn’t make up for losing Milha.

Emma and Bae didn’t use the experience of having lost their love to fuel a violent vengeance plot though. Regina and Hook went hardcore with the hate and wanting to kill the person they deemed responsible for their suffering, and they’ve held onto that hate with an iron grip for decades/centuries. I think each of them needs someone strong, kind, and sane to support them in moving forward.

I agree that the situation between Emma and Bae isn’t an exact parallel for Regina and Killian, since as stated, Bae and Emma never took out their pain on innocent people. Plus, two wrongs don’t make a right. However, with Hook and Regina, I think if each has an individual redemptive arch, there could be light at the end of the tunnel for them to eventually get together. I think each has his and her own baggage to sort through first, but this is a story about hope, and so I’m hopeful they will find their HEA (happily ever after), whether or not it’s with each other. Yet, I think that could be a plausible outcome. I’m not sure I’d want them to partner with other “nice” people, since we already have that story being told through Rumple and Belle. I think it’d be more more interesting to watch two former “villains” become one happy unit.

Agreed. Ive been of the opinion that Hook and Regina would eventually have to get together because of how similar they are. I’m willing to get through CaptainSwan (because I think falling in love with someone else is what will set Hook on a path of redemption) and Regina’s own redemption arc before they finally realize that they’re good together but I think it might be where it’s headed perhaps toward the end of S3, beginning of S4. CaptainEvil? CaptainQueen?
