“Don’t shoot it!” cried Emma and Henry in unison. “It’s our fourth one this week!” The toaster looked a little more compliant, but it could have been an act.
“But,” Charming sighed, “I was helping! I was going to save you from the nefarious plans of the…toaster.”
Emma raised her eyebrow. Poor David she thought he really misses being the hero.
“Look, Henry,” she said turning to her son “why don’t you go call your OTHER grandpa? He’ll know what to do.”
“NOT RUMPLESTILTSKIN!” the toaster exclaimed.
But it was too late. Henry was already out the door of the apartment and running down the street to Mr. Gold’s Pawn Shop.
“Grandpa, come quick! We have another enchanted toaster!”
Mr. Gold turned from his inventory and smiled at his grandson.
“Do you now?” Gold said. “I always found a fire and a pan worked for toast, if your appliances won’t behave.”
“So you won’t help?” Henry replied.
“I didn’t say that.” Gold smiled. “There is of course, the small matter of my fee.”
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
“But we are family now.” Henry piped up.
“True. But you can’t get something for nothing. Let that be the first lesson I teach you.” Rumple said moving around the counter. “Now come on. Let’s go deal with this toaster. Enchanted objects are a specialty of mine, afterall.”
As they reached the appartment the toaster was hiding underneath the bed.
“Get away, or I’ll make toast out of you all!” the thing yelled.
Rumpel wondered how she did it. He had also enchanted a few objects in his time, but they never turned evil like this.
“I am sure this is just a misunderstanding.” Snow said in a gentle voice as she knelt down next to the bed. She shot Gold a look. “We don’t need to do anything drastic here. Come on out little fellow.” she whispered.

The toaster shuddered under the bed but it couldn’t deny that the pretty lady seemed like a very nice lady.
“Will the man hurt me?” it asked
“I won’t let him, I promise.” Snow said
The brave little toaster made its way out from under the bed where it was picked up by Snow and set on the counter top.
“Now little guy, why don’t you tell us about yourself” Snow prompted.
“Ehm Emma?” Henry said in the background. “I still haven’t had breakfast.”
“Well, I guess toast is out of the question. How about cereal? ” Emma asked.
Henry went to get the box from the cupboard. But as he poured it out in the bowl, it ran off screaming.
