As for the hat, not that I defend Rumple cause I don’t in the slightest, but I don’t think the hat has to fully absorb the magical wearer to get the magic. There might be an option to only suck away just the magic itself, because Elsa’s parents apparently wanted to use the hat to take away Elsa’s magic, and I doubt they planned on imprisoning her.
I don’t think so Matt. The sorcerer’s apprentice was sucked into the hat. And RC said the hat not only takes away a person’s magic, but the person too. Rumple being Rumple though probably did not tell Elsa’s parents the full truth and I suspect, that’s probably the case with Emma here as well.
EvilRegals: RUN REGINA!!! RUN!!!
UglyDucklings: RUN EMMA!!!! RUN!!
And to answer everyone’s question about Rumple acting the way he is….I think Adam already gave the answer. He said everything Rumple doing this season would be “self serving”.

Pre-dark one Rumple said that if they ever took his boy away he would truly turn to dust. It’s like that ominous premonition has come to pass. Rumple the man is giving way to just the dark one. Neal was Rumple’s happy ending. He said so in Nasty Habits. Without his boy, it’s as if Rumple has nothing left to lose except power, which is why he’s grabbing hold of it. I really dread what that means for his relationship with his wife.

At this point, I’m not sure what Belle can really do to stop Rumple or keep him under control. He won’t trust her with the dagger and Rumple, being Rumple, he’s always going to find a way around what Belle doesn’t approve of. It’s just the way he is. And Belle, as much as she wants to believe he can be better, really she enables him by sticking by him the way she does.

And then we’d have to see him make a sacrifice. Either we’re going to get Evil To The Core Rumple or Back To Mortal Rumple.

Well this goes with something @Onyx was saying else where…
We know A and E aren’t going to kill Rumbelle (the pairing). But how do you keep Belle the character she is and have her be okay with all this? So either no more Rumbelle, OR they are going to have to alter Belle’s character quite a bit.

He wants to have power and magic, and be free from the control of the Dagger. He’s shaping up to be the ultimate Big Bad of the series.
If Rumple wants to be free of the dagger, then that’s okay. Really I have no problem with that and I think Belle would understand his desire for this but the way he’s going about trying to accomplish this…
Rumple would make an interesting villain since he’s very unpredictable and has ties to everyone really but that’s not clear in the writing.

If Rumple does get pushed to the edge, I hope it results in the removal of the dark one curse instead of in tragedy. But of course, Rumple must be willing to let go of his dark one powers completely, or as we saw in Skin Deep, not even TLK will free him. He has to want to be free in order for it to work. Either he’ll be a real hero or a real villain. Boy, this really seems like final season stuff doesn’t it?

October 24, 2014 at 10:09 pm #287279PheeParticipantSo Rumple’s likely gonna go uber dark, willing to even sacrifice a member of his family for the sake of more power, a thing that his wife should by rights find unforgiveable. Welcome to the family show about hope. Not that I should be surprised by now that character assassination is a thing they’re willing to do.

November 10, 2014 at 7:05 pm #289727Sage of EarthParticipantWow, there are alot of opinion, but let me point out the fact that the hat is said to be extremely powerful, especially if it can release the dagger hold on Rumple without getting rid of his powers. We still don’t know how this hat is capable of accomplishing this task, and something tell me it won’t be through sucking the dagger in. If it is than the writers and creators must be having some creativity issue. It is due to this where I would like to mention that there is a small chance that if Rumple uses the hat on Emma that it might not suck her in like it did with the apprentice.
I don’t know what is going to happen in the next episode, and all of you could be right. He will try to suck Emma inside the hat, but I will like to see what will happen before making any judgement calls. At the end of the day I think that Rumple is a complex human being who has alot of issues, but doesn’t have the best skills in coping without going back into villain mode. As for Rumple Behavior the creators have already a similar question that came up in Entertainment weekly article. Which I will provide a link to the article, but I will mention that the creators did responded by saying:
Is Rumple’s (Robert Carlyle) behavior this season in any way related to his resurrection from the vault of the Dark One?
Kitsis: Absolutely, it is related to that. It is related to the fact that all of last season, he was a slave to the dagger under the control of the Wicked Witch (Rebecca Mader), thus reminding him how precious his life is. And it is related to this hat and what it can do for him. He is a man who has always chosen power over love, but this hat is a tantalizing thing for him that he thought he never thought he would be able to achieve. When he finds the hat in the premiere, you realize why he had to wake up in the middle of the night and do it, even though he just made a big declaration to be on the straight and narrow. For us, it was: What is this object? What is so important that would make him break that code literally the same night? It’s based on all these things we’ve just talked about.Could the Sorcerer’s hat ever be powerful enough to rewrite fate?
Horowitz: That’s a great question. Maybe. So at the very least there is a potential that Regina might go after the hat if it can change fate, especially if she want to find the author in order to get an happy ending.
November 11, 2014 at 8:07 am #289769swanning-offParticipantThere was a bit the Snow Queen said in this last episode that really stood out to me:
“one story book, one little town – it’s not enough for a man of your power” (or whatever it was)
What stood out was one STORY BOOK. Did Rumple arrange for The Book to exist? If so, what does that mean for Regina’s dumb quest to “change fate” and get her happy ending (instead of doing what the rest of us do in the real world – work hard for what you want and ignore the concept of “fate”)
