Currently, I am anxiously waiting for season 3 of Orphan Black to finish, so I can binge watch the whole thing. 🙂
Then, I am looking forward to various summer shows. Who will watch some of these with me and discuss them? 😉
Some of these are new shows, some are continuing, and one I can’t recommend but can’t seem to quit. 😛
I can share more information on any of these to whoever is curious. 😀
Starting on Syfy June12:
– Defiance
– Dark MatterTwo arrive on TNT in late June:
– Falling Skies
– Last Ship– Extant on CBS July 1.
I am starting to be intrigued by the idea of Mr Robot, (and hoping that it is spared the Christian Slater curse 😉 ).
I may also sample Killjoys on Syfy.
Did I miss anything I should be seeing? What is everyone else watching this summer?

It has been an incredible season. Like out of this world good. Enjoy it.
– Dark Matter
I wanted to check this one out. We’ll see after the pilot how I feel. SyFy shows can be pretty hit or miss.
– Extant on CBS July 1.
There are a few of us who watch Extant regularly.
Other than that, for me, it’s:
1) Wrapping up “Penny Dreadful” and its second season….it might be better than the 1st season. It has been pretty perfect this year.
2) Under the Dome which I watch only to make fun of at this point.
3) Masters of Sex
4) I want to check out The Zoo

I’m excited about Under the Dome and Extant – love my alien shows.
I need to finish season 3 of Orphan Black. I love Tatiana Maslany. She kicks so much booty!
Also! Orange is the New Black season 3! Big win!
And, I want to recommend Sense8 to everyone, especially you, RG. I’d love to know your thoughts on this new Netflix original series.

Go. Right now. And watch. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. The second season is PHENOMENAL. I think it might be better than the first and I didn’t think they could do that.

Yay!! 😀 Last year I binge watched seasons 1 and 2 together, so I know how addictive it is. I don’t want to have to wait a week once I start. 😉

I’m happy that SyFy is getting back into actual space shows again! We’ll see how it turns out, but I have to give space shows a chance. 😎 Plus it’s from Stargate writers, so that’s cool.
And I’ve got to look forward to any show that Wil Wheaton is excited to be on. 😎 And David Hewlett is supposed to show up too! 😉
Also, my review is on the way soon! 😀

I haven’t watched any of those. What is Penny Dreadful like? It’s horror, right? Is it very graphic?
And The Zoo, oy. I’ll spare you the socio-political rant, as I know you get more than enough of those. 😉 I’ll just say, the ads for that one triggered a major pet peeve in my household, and leave it at that. 🙄

June 15, 2015 at 7:19 pm #305407Sci-Fi GirlParticipantI have a few comments on Dark Matter, but first:
So I’m a little delayed in watching, because last week I got tired of waiting and started watching an older show that I have been meaning to try. And now I am hooked!!! 😀 And I may as well discuss this show here too, because it may not be new, but I’m watching it this summer! 😛
“Death in Paradise” is a British detective show starring Ben Miller. I am a fan of his since Primeval, and he doesn’t disappoint! 😀 He is sarcastically serious, and fun-grumpy! 😆 (And he even has an adorable pet lizard, for Primeval fans!) 😉
Anyway, I was surprised to see Sean Maguire in the first episode! He only had a small role though. He was locked in a small town jail cell, and the cell next to him was occupied by a goat, LOL! 😆
Interestingly, all of the first six episodes have had at least two guest stars who have been on Doctor Who! 😀 (I have a whole list, but I won’t make you read it. 😉 ) Although Ben Miller himself was recently on Doctor Who, playing the Sheriff of Nottingham in “Robot of Sherwood”! 😆
I know Ben Miller left the show after the first two seasons, and I don’t expect to keep watching it after that. He is the reason I love the show, he is just too much fun! 😀 I am going to be so disappointed when I get to his last episode. 🙁

June 15, 2015 at 7:27 pm #305408Sci-Fi GirlParticipantBut I got really curious last night, and took a little break from “paradise” to check out “Dark Matter“. 🙂 Here is my review: 😎
Spoilers ahoy if you haven’t seen it yet!
—–
—–Well it was a little bit of a slow start, but it’s interesting enough to keep me guessing as to what is really going on.
—
The girl is not one of the wanted prisoners (mercenaries, assassins, whatever they are). I think she came from the last place the Raza attacked, stowed away on board, and did something to the tech to wipe all their memories and the ship’s record of their next target. She knew whatever she did would wipe her memory too, so she brought along whatever is in that hold to gradually feed memories back to her (either her’s or someone else’s). Or at least whatever she needs to know. That’s why she “keep(s) it locked”, she needs to keep it from them. And it contains “secrets”, as that’s where she keeps her information, away from them.
My mother thinks the dream was entirely metaphor: the attackers were these criminals, their “eyes” being the knowledge that she removed from their minds. Now they see differently, cannot see what they were originally supposed to do. And the evil stepmother could be the corporation? I don’t know, it’s a theory in progress. 😉
Oh, and who is Rothgar? (Or is it Hrothgar?) Some leader to the oppressed? Where is he though? Could the green haired girl be one of his people come to help the mining colony, and could the pendant in the bedroom be hers?
—
This is still full of cliches though. Oh look there’s an Asian guy, is he the techie? No! He’s Kung Fu / Samurai dude! 🙄
And the girl, as a tech prodigy with psychic visions, manages to be both Kaylie and River at the same time! 😛 LOL!
But why is David Hewlett grinning maniacally from the screen?!? 😆 ROTFL!
—
I was also a little distracted by some of the names. “Rothgar” a friendly leader, and “The Raza” described as scary half lizard assasins (before the reveal). These names and descriptions seem to be taken from the Eragon book series! (Second show to borrow from there!)
In Eragon, Hrothgar is the friendly king of the dwarves. Now I know that Paolini got that name from older works and legends, so that is not so telling. But the Ra’zac are half bird creatures that do the evil bidding of the enemy, killing whoever they are told to. (Picture them as a deadly cross between “raven” and “cossack”.)
Now the Raza analogy still fits after the reveal, because they are mercenary / assassins flying around in a ship! 😯

June 15, 2015 at 7:30 pm #305409Sci-Fi GirlParticipantI haven’t watched the opener of Defiance yet, and I have not heard good things about it so now I’m procrastinating. That’s the one I said I could not recommend. The first season was very good, (though the ending was absolutely baffling). The second season got weird and darker, but I still watched because I was invested in the characters, and I still found some things to like. But if season three continues to go downhill, and loses more of the things or characters I like, it may finally lose me. 🙁

Yes, horror and yes graphic. Though as someone who doesn’t like horror or graphic at all, it’s not overwhelming. They handle their very dark themes quite well because the actors can seriously carry their roles. Eva Green is just…sublime. Like good lord. It also instinctively knows when to put on the brakes and take a step back and let everyone BREATHE, something that high drama often has a huge problem doing (something Outlander knew how to do too…)
But I got really curious last night, and took a little break from “paradise” to check out “Dark Matter“. 🙂 Here is my review:
My review is brief: I won’t be watching further. Didn’t capture me at all. It’s full of cliches without any sort of commentary on the trope-tastic-ness of their space drama. Cliches and tropes are perfectly fine because there is something to be said about these stock characters of the universe in the Jungian sense in that they keep populating our myths and stories for universal reasons about identity and the experience of the human race in all times and spaces but…there’s also a lot to be said about knowing that is what is happening and trying to go against the grain and subvert it or at the very least offering some sort of thoughtful discussion on them. Other space shows have been there, done that, and done it better in the first hour…and Dark Matter did not do it well enough to keep me glued because it felt like I had done it all before. But I hope you enjoy it!

Ack, I’m starting to ship the two leads, and they are toying with me. 😮 Ep 2.1 was a massive tease! 😯
I have been spoiled as to how it ends for those two, so I’m trying not to ship them. 🙁 But they are not making it easy!
They’ve definitely got a love/hate thing going on though. So far it’s clear that she likes him. But he is either in denial, scared, or a clueless idiot, LOL! I’m going with scared.
*update: As of ep 2.4, she deliberately annoyed him enough to get him to chase her down the beach. Just getting him to run on the beach at all is a major accomplishment! 😆
