The ABC drama has tapped Gil McKinney (Supernatural, Friday Night Lights) to play the pivotal role of Prince Eric in a multi-episode Season 3 arc, TVLine has learned exclusively.
Prince Eric is, of course, known for being the love interest of mermaid Ariel, who will be portrayed by JoAnna Garcia Swisher (Reba, Privileged). Both characters will debut in this season’s sixth episode, appropriately titled “Ariel.”
Though little has been confirmed about Once‘s wrinkle on Ariel’s fish tale, the smart money says that our Storybrooke travelers bump up against the lass while braving the island of Neverland — perhaps cuing up a flashback to the “trouble” Regina once had with a certain mermaid. (Is the Evil Queen also Ursula? Discuss.)
McKinney played Dean and Sam’s paternal grandfather on Supernatural. He also appeared on the final season of Friday Night Lights as Julie’s T.A./love interest.

Slurpeez: he is very cute. I’m not so concerned with the looks of the cast. Excited to see what his spin will be!

I was hoping for Tom Welling though but I’ll give this guy a chance. I don’t watch Supernatural. I watched one episode, the one where Sam and Dean parodied themselves, playing their real-world counterparts, playing themselves.

I’m just showing the parental casting for Emma and similarities and then just because I’ll hold out Eric/Ariel momma and papa ideas until they’re proven wrong.

Don’t see it personally. OUAT may be able to put their own spin where certain characters can mesh up with another but I don’t see Disney allowing one of their biggest cash cows (just in time for the blue ray release) to have been pregnant with Captain Hook. The only reason they allowed the Snow White/Emma loophole was because Emma isn’t an established Disney/Literary character and she’s the female lead of the show. Which brings the other obvious point that would undermine the show’s premise by taking away Emma’s unique journey and cutting and pasting it to a supporting character to appease a selective shipper group.
It’ll be more interesting to see who ends up playing Liam though.
I am not hoping for Hook to be their kid but I have to disagree they cannot do that. Ariel is the ONE princess that Disney has made a mother in their video sequels, and marketed these as a “trilogy” . Now she has a daughter not a son, but OUAT takes extreme liberties with many of the characters. They have an entire franchise on Tinkerbell, and a new movie (with Tom Hiddelston doing Hook’s voice) out soon. Yet there Tink is, human sized and chummy with the Evil Queen.
I do not think Liam is that interesting, Eric is recurring–Liam is not. There might be more to learn I guess by who they cast about what role he might play. Yet it seems like a small role either way.
