This is the first synopsis so far of “The Crocodile”. I expect that there will be many more coming out today with more details.
Belle threatens to leave Mr. Gold if he doesn’t change his ways; the dwarves try to find fairy dust in the Storybrooke mine; Rumplestiltskin tries to save his wife from a band of pirates.
Oh man, I feared after watching last night’s episode that Rumbelle would have their own version of the Snowing curse in being separated but instead of a Curse or other outside obstacles in their way, it would be Rumple doing something bad, Belle catching him and getting angry with him over it, and then coming back to him in the end. Lather, rinse, repeat. I really hope not.

And yea, I hope the Belle-leaves-then-comes back thing doesn’t become a cycle. We already know that she is going to be in episodes 5,6,7(…or is it 6,7,8?)…not sure, I recall someone asking the writers about Belle’s character after her being M.I.A. for several episodes. Her re-appearance might happen in episode 5 and her presence probably remain until the mini-hiatus. So it’s safe to say that Belle *probably* doesn’t leave Gold? At least not permanently…unless she leaves and they give her another role/storyline away from Gold (ouh, let the Hook/Belle crack!theories begin!) 😆
ETA: Also, it was mentioned that Belle would take a “darker” tone with her character in season 2. Still unsure of what that could mean…

Wait-Rumple tries to save his wife? If the theories about Milha and Hook are true, this may be alot more sinister than a bored housewife ditching her family-this sounds like a kidnapping!

My initial reaction is that this happens after Rumpel becomes the Dark One. Yet, there’ll be a flash-back or allusion to when Milha, a dissatisfied housewife who never respected her cowardly husband, met a dashing pirate named Beaman (aka Captain Hook). When he came calling, she didn’t even bother to leave a goodbye note. Rumplestiltskin, a broken, human man and deserter, convinced himself his wife was kidnapped by pirates rather than believe she’d abandoned her family, the same way he clung to his belief that Baelfire is his true son. Yet, Rumpel was incapable of doing anything about it then, because of his limp and his own cowardice. He had to raise this son he hoped was his all alone. Then the events from Desperate Souls and The Return happened. Now that he is the Dark One, he has the power and motivation to hunt down Hook seeking revenge, but he is shocked to find that Milha wasn’t kidnapped but willfully left him and her son for adventure as part of the crew. That’s what I hope happens anyway.

I think this could be a re-occuring theme for Rumpel/Mr. Gold. Perhaps it even echoes what happened with his wife, Milha, who dissatisfied with her husband’s cowardice, threatened to leave and then did. When it comes to Belle, she’ll grow increasingly frustrated with Rumpel’s need for power, which he clings to in hopes of finding Baelfire. Perhaps in an effort to win Belle, he finally confides in her about what happened to his wife and son, and then pledges to give up the power once and for all when he finds Bae again.the dwarves try to find fairy dust in the Storybrooke mine
Jenny predicted this would happen in the initial reactions podcast.

BELLE THREATENS TO LEAVE MR. GOLD IF HE CONTINUES WITH HIS THIRST FOR POWER, AND RUMPLESTILTSKIN ATTEMPTS TO SAVE HIS WIFE FROM A BAND OF CUTTHROAT PIRATES, ON ABC’S “ONCE UPON A TIME”
“The Crocodile” – Belle’s disgust over Mr. Gold’s continuing thirst for power comes to a head, and she threatens to leave him if he can’t change his evil ways; the dwarves pick up their axes and try to find fairy dust in the Storybrooke mine; and a reunion with an old acquaintance could prove to be Belle’s undoing. Meanwhile, back in the fairytale land that was, Rumplestiltskin attempts to save his wife, Milah, from being kidnapped by a band of cutthroat pirates, on “Once Upon a Time,” SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
“Once Upon a Time” stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret, Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Lana Parrilla as Evil Queen/Regina, Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/David, Emilie de Ravin as Belle, Jared S. Gilmore as Henry Mills, Meghan Ory as Red Riding Hood/Ruby, and Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold.
Guest starring are Lee Arenberg as Leroy/Grumpy, Barbara Hershey as Cora, Colin O’Donoghue as Killian Jones, David-Paul Grove as Doc, Faustino Di Bauda as Sleepy, Jeffrey Kaiser as Dopey, Michael Coleman as Happy, Mig Macario as Bashful, Sebastian Wilkinson as young Baelfire, Rachel Shelley as Milah, Rondel Reynoldson as village woman, Eric Keenleyside as Moe/Sir Maurice, Christopher Gauthier as William, Chelsea Turner as tavern waitress and Ryan Hesp as quartermaster.
“The Crocodile” was written by David H. Goodman & Robert Hull and directed by David Solomon.
Hooray to seeing a Baby Baelfire though! If Mystery Man is Bae, he’ll be the only character we’ve seen so far as a baby, as a young teenager, and as an adult. Not even Emma has had that happen quite yet.

Several interesting bits in this article:
Colin O’Donoghue as Killian Jones
Could that be Hook’s Storybrooke name, a fake name he possibly gives Belle or Hook’s name before he becomes Captain Hook.
Belle’s disgust over Mr. Gold’s continuing thirst for power comes to a head, and she threatens to leave him if he can’t change his evil ways
Belle’s already returned to Rumple after their little spat so what does he do that is bad enough for her to threaten to leave him for good?
a reunion with an old acquaintance could prove to be Belle’s undoing.
This interests me the most. Who could the old aquaintance be? I thought that perhaps it may have been Hook seeing as he is in this episode yet the way it is worded makes it sound like it is an old aquaintance of Belle’s.
I think this episode will be where we see the start of a “darker” Belle.

Keeper of FelixOctober 1, 2012 at 8:52 pm #154955SlurpeezParticipantPerhaps Hook IS an old aquantaince of Belle. 💡 She said in 1×12 that she’d always wanted to see the world. Who better to give it to her than Hook? Maybe she set sail with him for a bit after Rumpel cast her out but before Regina abducted her.

I vote for Gaston 😆
Seriously, I just wonder how acquainted she could be with hook since *I think* there was a spoiler floating around somewhere of one of hook’s man getting a bit rough with Belle

I second that 😀
October 2, 2012 at 2:36 am #155011JosephineParticipantMaybe Belle goes for another “walk” and discovers Gaston walking around Storybrooke with a pegleg. He tells her the last thing he remembers is standing in Rumple’s doorway, and she gets angry. 😛
Ohh, here’s my theory. Belle gets angry at Gold after she finds out he beat her dad up last Valentine’s Day, so she walks out to see her dad. On the way, she comes across Smee, who is the old aquaintance who abducted after she left Rumple. Her undoing is him capturing her once again. Either the Queen put him up to it, or more likely Hook, knowing she was connected to Rumple wanted her to torment Rumple, and then somehow Hook gave Belle to Regina in exchange for something else. So off Gold goes to assemble the possee of Charming and Moe to find Belle and get her back, proving his love for her by working with her father since they have to work together to get her back.
The only fly in the ointment is I assumed Hook is in whatever is left of the Enchanted Forest because in the promo there is a pic of Emma having him in a headlock with a knife to his throat. I’m surprised he has a Storybrooke counterpart now after seeing that promo. But that scene could be after she returns to Storybrooke. We don’t know how many episodes are included in the clips.
