I watched Twin Peaks back in the day and am a huge David Lynch fan. I highly suggest watching some of his films and at the very least the Twin Peaks TV Series.
When I first heard them describe the “red room” I too couldn’t help but think of the Red Room in Twin Peaks. However, the Red Room in OUAT does not contain a talking backwards dwarf.
Here is a link to the Red Room scene Danielle spoke about in his podcast:

He learns a bunch of stuff whilst vising the room and communicates with a very dead Laura Palmer. Interestingly Henry also visits his red room through dreams and can also communicate with others. I wonder if the OUAT room is based on the Twin Peak’s one.

As a result of her fear, Jane’s mind played tricks on her, made her think there were ghosts, and she passed out. I don’t know if the writers of the episode are fans of that novel, but it might be a tenuous connection.

The indoor plumbing thing is not a good enough reason to want to stay in our world. They should feel not part of this world in a way that makes then want to go back.
November 16, 2012 at 5:59 am #160971GrimmsisterParticipantTo the ‘should they want to stay in Storybrook or go back to Fairytaleland’ comments.
I was thinking they might in the end want to stay in our world and not go back. Because in fairytaleland someone else writes your story and desides if your an Evil Queen type or a Lucky Princess type. And in our world you can deside yourself, for the most part hopefully.
Then the idea of the show is Kitsis and Horrorwitz’s attempt to free the inslaved story book characters-
That is so nice of them 😀 😀Think of the scene where Evil Queen asks the witches and trolls and what not, to give a piece of hair so she can cook up the curse. That old blind witch asks “And we will be happy??” I felt sorry for those dudes, in fairytaleland a happy ending for a witch is an impossible thing.
November 16, 2012 at 1:05 pm #160990hjbauParticipantWhat? The fairytale characters still seem to be in complete control of their choices. Regina was not born the evil queen. We even saw the moment when she made that choice.
November 16, 2012 at 7:59 pm #161071GrimmsisterParticipantYes but someones choices can be predetermined. If you believe in determinism thats a fact for all of us.
But for the story in OUaT; Someone still writes the fairytales or tells the story and then it is that person- The narrator of the story, who chooses the characters choice for them. See my point? maybe I’m a bit lousy at explaining it 😕November 16, 2012 at 8:15 pm #161082beautyistruthParticipantThat’s one thing I didn’t understand about FTL and the “good will always win” rationale. Good doesn’t always win. The Duke terrorized peasants and drafted little kids to a brutal war. Charming’s mother got killed. Peter got tied to a tree and eaten by his girlfriend because Granny had poor judgement. Graham had his heart ripped out for being a nice person. Clearly bad things happen to “good” people. I sort of hope K&H didn’t just retcon the idea of villains being doomed to always lose.
I don’t know which world they’ll want to stay in. They have both sets of memories, after all. Also, fairytale land looks like a pretty sad, post-apocalyptic place right now.
November 17, 2012 at 8:50 am #161160frumpybutsupersmartParticipantI think the “good will always win” idea was mostly them being optimistic.

I TOTALLY DISAGREE:
NO WAY would I want to go back to FTL/ EF if I were a FT character… unless you are rich and powerful … you were totally beaten down and taken advantage of. Little say in your own life, no freedom. Other things I would miss…
MODERN MEDICINE even from DR F/ Dr Whale
Phones, computers, modern communication
Cars …. Modern transportation… horse power under a hood not pooping in a pasture
More leisure time for myself …. peasants worked day break to dusk… no work … no food. …. Not my idea of life.I also think the FTL characters probably found life in SB easier to deal with and they know what to do in this time and place ….. my fear is they would be transported back against their wills…. that would be such a BUMMER.
