“DNR”
General: Mostly, I thought this was a pretty decent episode. I liked all the religious/false religion overtones with Clarke’s storyline–is Clarke a false savior or does it just depend on where you’re standing? The Raven bits were also good and emotional. However, please put Jasper and his crew out of their misery already. Their plot is dragging on far too long.
–“Congrats, you get to live in a hole in the ground for 5 years. Thanks for playing.” Sassy Raven is my favorite kind of Raven. This episode put Raven to really good use and while it’s hard to see her go, I thought her send off was wonderfully executed (provided they don’t undo it all next week) There’s a really nice contrast between Raven and what’s going on with Jasper and his gang; both groups are really sick of of fighting to live but Raven’s choice makes more sense–she’s at death’s door anyway with her brain problems. Jasper and his crew actually have a good chance if they would get over their angst and help Clarke and the rest of Skaikru.
–Raven has the foresight to get to a gurney and lay down moments before she begins to seize.
–Can I just say how much I like the language of Trigedasleng? And specifically how you can almost tell what they are saying without reading the words on the screen because of the way the language is constructed out of heavily accented slang?
–Still not on board with Octavia and Illian. Still think this storyline is a pretty poor one for all the reasons I said up thread and if the bloodbath we witnessed is any indication, sex with Illian was just another way to cover up her pain.
–Harper switched to Jasper’s side because….? Good to see Bellamy came to his senses, though.
–“Make me the Commander.” So that was a pretty nice subversion of where I thought this was going, not that I was going to complain about Clarke being the new Commander. Maybe the show is just delaying the (seemingly) inevitable but having the clans (who view Nightbloods in a mystical and mythological sense) deny Clarke the role of Commander makes sense because Clarke didn’t come by it naturally. “There’s nothing sacred about any of this.”
–So this is the Hunger Games, yeah? Who all is going to fight? Octavia is a shoe-in given her 11th hour arrival.

It’s nice to be posting about The 100 again! A very bleak episode, though a good one.
Thoughts
– Favourite quote: “If anyone can convince mortal enemies to move in together, it’s you.” Yep, that’s our Clarke.
– Most provacative quote: “The survival of the human race is at stake. Participation is not optional.” This got my blood boiling. I wanted to shout “F*** you, Jaha! Stop trying to play God again!”
– Surprisingly, I was on Jasper’s side this time, and I actually liked that storyline. I felt sorry for Monty, but I can understand where the DNR group is coming from. Back in Season 2, I remember Jasper telling Maya “Space sucked.” They don’t talk about it much, but from the few comments here and there, I imagine that living in space was an incredibly restrictive, bleak and clinical sort of life. Some dealt with it better than others, while some, like Jasper, got high. This was a nice call back to that and very much in line with Jasper’s character.
– I found it interesting that a couple of comments (Jaha’s and Monty’s) insinuated that the DNR group should be denied any agency, simply because they were not choosing life. This was some interesting social commentary. Why is the default position to question the mental state of someone who is not willing to live?
– The Bellamy, Harper, Jasper scene was very moving.
– The bunker, Clarke, Azgeda vs Trikru storyline progressed nicely. I’m looking forward to the conclave.
– Octavia made a grand entrance into Polis!
– Raven’s storyline has me worried. She’s not really going to die is she? Not Raven! Also, I can’t imagine how anyone can think that dying alone, in space, is going out in style. It seems soul crushingly lonely to me.
– Did anyone else get hints of a Miller/Jackson romance?!
–So this is the Hunger Games, yeah? Who all is going to fight? Octavia is a shoe-in given her 11th hour arrival.
Yeah, obviously Octavia, although I can’t believe I didn’t think of her until THAT entrance. Also Roan. The million dollar question: will Luna fight? For Trikru?
May 3, 2017 at 2:30 pm #337686hjbauParticipantSeriously, can someone just kill Jaha already? Why is anyone listening to that guy still? They have a limited amount of space and if these people are not mentally prepared to be trapped somewhere again then well let them be, for goodness sake.
I think Raven is going to go up into space and be saved. Didn’t they say they could save her up there? Then maybe she will be able to do something about the radiation. I could see them deus ex machina this somehow. Maybe creating some sort of safe zone somehow.
I understand what they were trying to do with the whole Clarke wasn’t born a nightblood so her becoming one artificially mocks their religion, but it is still their religion. I am not sure that it actually makes sense in a lot of ways. It is no less arbitrary then people being born a nightblood though, i guess, that could be gods will instead of the will of a person.
I look forward to the big fight and i am glad Octavia is back for it.

Well that was a blood bath; RIP Luna, Roan, and Illian.
Overall, I really liked this episode! The fighting was all very well done and intense. For an episode that was almost totally devoid of its leading lady, it managed to move the story forward and have some great character moments.
–Octavia is wearing Lincoln’s markings.
–Indra and Octavia have such a great relationship. I love how it’s half mother/daughter and half teacher/student. “I taught you to fight; who you fight for is up to you.”
–“Like it or not, we’re all grounders now.”
-“You were the girl under the floor. Use that.” Ahhh, the very interesting and compelling Bellamy and Octavia history. I’ve missed their dynamic and Bellamy’s strongest story (and the most chemistry I think he has on screen) is with his sister. I also really enjoyed all the Bellamy moments waiting to see if Octavia would live through the Conclave.
–“You tell her I was the lucky one.” This episode is reminding why I liked Bellamy quite a bit prior to last year’s mishaps.
–“I’m not the girl you want me to be.” Oh, thank goodness. I really disliked the Ilian/Octavia “relationship” because it always felt like just another way to cover up Octavia’s grief instead of processing it. It’s also a fairly gross trope of “sex to cover up pain” meets “enemies until sex.” And it was unworthy of Octavia. That being said, her final moments with Illian were really nice and show a softer side to Octavia.
–The Luna, Roan, Octavia fight was really well done. (Man, this Black Rain comes at the worst possible time!)
–Octavia’s final speech after winning: well, here’s hoping this “all for one and one for all” mentality actually holds water when Prime Fire hits.
(moments after writing the above….)
–Clarke! COME ON. Seriously?! Well there goes that.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 10, 2017 at 9:31 pm #338229hjbauParticipantJaha needs to go. There is no excuse for his character surviving this season.
Ha, i didn’t even read your spoiler until after i wrote this. He needs to go. It is time.
If they only have a 100, Jaha should not be one of them. I think i am going to be much happier with who is left after this season then i was after last season.
May 11, 2017 at 8:46 am #338249sciencevsmagicParticipantYeah, Jaha can go. He’s been an interesting character, but I don’t mind him departing now.
May 11, 2017 at 8:47 am #338250sciencevsmagicParticipant‘The Other Side’ was another really good episode. In particular, top marks for creating a lot of non-romantic feels! Other shows, take note!
Thoughts
– First of all, I am SO glad that Raven got better! The solution was typically Raven – smart and super gutsy.
– I cheered at this line: “I’d take Raven Reyes over those three hacks (Da Vinci, Einstein and who even cares) any day!” You said it, Sinclair!!
– The Raven/Sinclair relationship in this episode was beautiful and inspiring.
– “You don’t make me want to live and I’m not worth dying for.” This must be the coldest water ever poured on any ship. Ultimately, I’m glad Marper survived.
– Jasper’s demise in Monty’s arms was bittersweet and heartbreaking. Everyone knew it was coming, and I was glad to see Jasper’s last moments with his best friend. It was so fitting that they were watching the moon. Anyone remember Jasper’s story about how he and Monty would watch the moonrise on the arc and play ‘On which planet would you rather?’
– The deaths of the non-survivors-by-choice was kind of pathetic, kind of frustrating and just really sad.
– Octavia’s faith in Bellamy was incredible. Their relationship is one of the best things on this show.
– Did Clarke’s rationale about Skaikru having a greater skillset to manage the technology in the bunker have any merit at all? Was it wise to fill the bunker up with grounders who might not be able to contribute as much to the place as Skaikru people?
– It’s sweet that Clarke still seeks out Niylah whenever she needs comfort. Speaks volumes about what a wonderful person Niylah is.
– So we’re back to making a list. This should be interesting. I’m intrigued and concerned that Octavia didn’t reserve a spot for herself along with Bellamy.
May 11, 2017 at 9:26 am #338251hjbauParticipantIt was my impression that Octavia is now considering herself part of Trikru.
I am glad Raven lived as well. I imagine that Monty is going to get her on the way past.
May 13, 2017 at 11:01 pm #338544RumplesGirlKeymasterFinally got to sit down and watch “The Other Side”
I have some mixed feelings….?
–“I must have missed the election that made you chancellor again!” Bellamy. Okay, I have to admit that I’ve always (really) liked Bellamy up until last season when I thought he went off kilter. He’s been coming back in small spurts, but I really loved him all over again this week. His story with Octavia is so compelling and interesting to watch. And I like that writers are constantly denying Bellamy trying to chose between Clarke and Octavia; it’s Octavia. It’ll always be his sister that he reaches for first.
–Geez, Clarke. You left your mom’s new boyfriend out in the cold to die. That’s harsh.
–I was really irritated by Clarke this week which is surprising because usually I find her super amazing. So once the door opens then Skaikru has to make the hard choice of which people to cast out into the radiation, the same choice the other clans have made. But Clarke refuses to open the door, even though she knows it’s wrong to not, and then has the gall to hide behind “this is about saving the human race.” The heck it is, Clarke Griffin! The bunker can hold about 1300? And Skaikru only has roughly 400? That’s so much wasted space the way Clarke and Jaha have set it up. This whole time she’s been fighting for unity and trying to save as many as possible and now she’s just gonna sit back and let more than half of the world die?
–Not to belabor this Clarke point but she even says “today we have to live with being wrong” when Jaha says that yesterday they thought they were doing the right thing. Then open the door and let people in, Clarke! The writing for Clarke really irritated me this week because she’s usually pretty great, even when making hard choices.
–Okay one more thing…all this back and forth about whether or not to open the door and feeling bad about not opening the door…you could have just opened the door and saved people faster before the radiation got worse! (seriously, irritated) (look! they opened the door! and nothing happens to Skaikru because of all the radiation Jaha and Clarke keep talking about! Except that they have to do the same as the other clans! So no, Clarke. This was never about “saving the human race” it was completely about saving your people, which worked a few years ago when it really was an us vs them mentality but now you’re supposed to be one people, something you’ve been fighting for!)
–“I knew you’d come through.” “I love you so much” (melts into a puddle of Blake-family feels)
–Octavia telling Jaha that Bellamy gets a bed—that’s her version of “I love you”
–Sinclair and Raven! That was excellent. “I don’t chose pain. I chose life.” Raven, sweetie. Could you go talk to the sad sacks who are killing themselves a few doors over? Thanks.
–Speaking of, Jasper’s death was bittersweet and I’m glad it was with Monty since their stories have always overlapped. But I’m really not okay with the mass suicide plot. I agree with @sciencevsmagic that it was frustrating and pathetic. I also think it was a cheap way for the writers to get rid of a lot of Skaikru extras to make room for a more diverse group of people inside the bunker for S5.
