“The Chosen”
–A big ol BLAH to Jaha. I’m really glad he’s moving on after this season. He grates. His whole speech about how he can’t believe they are sending 364 of “our people” to die after they finally felt safe, unpacked their bags, chose their bunks…yeah because you and Clarke went rogue and took the bunker for Skaikru! He can’t even admit that he acted selfishly (which is perhaps understandable but selfish nonetheless)
–With that said, I was pleasantly (if such a word can be used here) surprised to see that Marcus was able to talk Jaha around. And the visual of Octavia standing amongst all the gas was powerful and painful.
–“I’m one of you? You made me hide under the floor; you floated my mother. I’m not hiding now.”
–“Not shooting me? Was the right choice.” I really enjoy Clarke and Bellamy’s dynamic. I don’t know if I ever want it to go full on romance but there’s no denying that they’ve been through a lot and there’s a connection there.
–Abby I get that you feel guilty–and that’s good because you should feel guilty for your (minor) role in Doorgate—but I’m fairly certain that the 1300 people in the bunker for the next 5 yrs are going to need a really competent doctor.
–Ahhhhh. So everyone piles into the bunker and the last remaining of the 100-kids go back into space. I have a bad feeling about this seeing the promo.

I imagine they are going to do a time jump in between seasons. I love Octavia as the queen of the grounders. I wonder if anyone is going to have kids during the time jump.

Same. A five year jump. I’m nervous that someone is going to get left behind….
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 19, 2017 at 3:34 am #339101sciencevsmagicParticipant‘The Chosen’ was a reasonable episode, with lots of great tension, but I was unsatisfied by the ending.
– Agree with @RumplesGirl about Jaha. He’s become…I’m sure there’s a word for it, but it’s not coming to mind. Basically, he’s become so single minded that he’s lost all sense of empathy, fairness and remorse. He’s like one of those extremist religious leaders, which I’m sure is a comparison the show wants us to make. Jaha started off as a sympathetic character in S1, but he’s become increasingly unlikeable with each passing season. In a sense, he’s a good leader, capable of being bold and finding unusual solutions. But he’s become so single minded along the way that he’s lost most of his humanity and maybe become a bit of a sociopath. He unleased all hell with ALIE but hasn’t shown as much remorse as you’d expect, especially compared to the likes of Clarke, Bellamy, Kane and Abby. In a word, I’m glad he’s leaving.
– “I’m one of you? You made me hide under the floor; you floated my mother. I’m not hiding now.” This was a super line from Octavia. Feeling unwanted by Skaikru is a critical part of her character. It should also never be forgotten that Lincoln and Indra of Trikru were the first ones apart from her brother to care deeply about her.
– I loved Octavia rescuing Niylah.
– Abby wanting to commit suicide was a strange piece of writing. I mean, she was willing to abandon her daughter, lover and patients just because she felt bad about the door incident?! That’s just incredibly weak and stupid!
– Kane talking Jaha down was a nice scene, but somewhat surprising. Jaha seemed so dead set on his course that it felt strange for him to be talked out of it. Perhaps because it was Kane, and they have a long history.
– Kane seems cursed to repeatedly gas his people to death for the greater good.
– Is Octavia a good leader? I’m not sure yet. She’s definitely matured. On the other hand, I can’t believe she was willing to throw out all of Skaikru, who are the only ones that can operate the bunker. It’ll be interesting to see how Octavia develops.
– I can’t believe the kids are going back into space. That’s just stretches suspension of belief to breaking point. There’s no way the eight of them can survive for five years on the remnants of the arc. Especially as only two of them have any sort of technical expertise.
– Judging from the promo, I think Clarke is going to be left behind. I don’t envy her, being completely alone on an irradiated world for five years. If everything so far hasn’t driven her insane, then this surely will.

I’m confused on how she’ll survive. Yes, nightblood will keep her alive from the radiation but what about food, water? I assume this death wave and following waves are going to wipe out animals.

Water should be fine, as her blood should be able to process the radiation contained in it. As for Earth’s ecosystem, I can only presume that the radiation, despite causing devastation, will not wipe it out completely. Some species, both plant and animal, are hardier than others and will cope better. Some may develop genetic mutations which enable them to adapt, much like nightbloods. At the very least, there should be just enough food sources such as seaweed, insects, wild herbs and certain types of fungus for her to scrounge. I think this will be the show’s explanation for how Clarke survives. It’s consistent with what they’ve shown before, which is that remnants of the ecosystem survived even the initial nuclear explosions. That forest the kids landed in when they first arrived had to have been several decades, if not several centuries old.
May 19, 2017 at 10:49 am #339111hjbauParticipantThey have also explained that the people left on the ground as well as the Skaikru are more able to take in radiation anyways and so that means the plants have in some way adapted. The people in mount weather where the unadapted pocket of humanity.
I still don’t get why they don’t at least let as many people as possible hide in the bunker until this wave passes and then put them out, so maybe they would at least have a chance. It seems like the wave is the biggest issue going on. I guess the problem being that once people are in they wouldn’t leave.
I think the whole they seem to be killing off humanity outside the bunker is a weird decision for me writing wise. It really shrinks the world building. We will see what they do with it.
Though, honestly, when they showed the shot of Clark in the forest, i thought that was after the time jump. There wasn’t any snow and she looked sort of wild looking. I think the idea that she might get left behind is a good one since she was like hugging people and stuff in the island bunker.
I thought that Clarke’s mom had something wrong with her brain like Raven did and that was why she wanted to be left out of the bunker? That might have been fixed and i not remember though what with my lack of interest in the adults’ existence.
And i completely agree with “I’m one of you? You made me hide under the floor; you floated my mother. I’m not hiding now” was a pretty awesome line and really brought where she started to where she is now. I am not sure she is being a great leader right now either. I think she is right, in that, to protect humanity that they would have had to take out Skaikru if they couldn’t make a decision, but it seems like she is doing it out of anger. I think they aren’t quite showing that properly, sort of like Clarke’s decision to steal the bunker and then to not let Octavia in seemed like a weird one.
That is the sort of writing error that happens at times on this show.

Yum!

Right, because she and Raven were talking about it. But Raven also told Abby that there’s a cure, it works, and they’ll fix Abby. Then Abby tells Kane that she wants out of the bunker to die.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 19, 2017 at 7:36 pm #339133hjbauParticipantYeah, but they are going into space, so how will they fix Abbey? Raven’s health seemed to fall apart quickly. I thought that Abbey thought she was dying and that was why she said that? She didn’t want to tell Kane that she was dying. Like i said, i might have missed that storyline because i don’t pay attention very well when they are all talking.
May 19, 2017 at 7:51 pm #339135RumplesGirlKeymasterI think I’m going to talk this out since I’m confusing myself
–Abby talks to Raven and learns Raven is all better. Abby knows that someone is going to go get Raven–she even says that Raven will be here fixing stuff up or something
–Abby tells Kane she’s leaving the Bunker for reasons
–Bellamy and Clarke leave
–Plot happens and they all go to get Raven but also have to plan to go into space because they can’t get back to the bunker before the deathwave. <–this is the part I don’t think Abby knows. I don’t think she knows that Clarke/Bellamy/Raven aren’t coming back to the Bunker. She might next week but she didn’t when she told Kane to make sure he didn’t chose her name. So in the moment she told Kane this, she was under the assumption Raven was coming to the bunker and was going to fix Abby soon.
