I didn’t want this to start a debate, but just wanted to voice my concerns over how I perceive some of the convos on here. Some people are so wrapped into their ships that they aren’t able to enjoy the show for the twists everyone has loved. I have seen on chat some people take offense on their ships and it does make me feel bad that people have to justify themselves. A chatter told me to post this just to see the response I would get. I did and now regret it in a way. I think the only reason I am an anti-shipper is the fact that people fight and feelings get hurt. Or they threaten not to watch the show if their ship sinks. Also, I thought my poem was cute
I wish I had a solution to the shipping wars that sometimes spring up here. I really do. Especially when it comes to our sidebar chat because try as I might to step in and/or redirect, things can still get out of hand and the fact is the vast majority of the regular chatters on our sidebar are SFers and sometimes it can get SF heavy or anti-CS and it’s cringe worthy because or first rule has always been respect; and sadly Matt and I can’t actually be here 24/7 to ensure that it never happens so it does happen (let’s face it, I come pretty gosh darn close but even I need a break every now and then). I love the passion people have for their ships and for the show overall but I’m at a loss sometimes with what to do. Thus the constant “ship and let ship, even if that ship is no ship” policy. A reminder that to each their own and we all need to respect that.
KP if you (or anyone else) has concerns about something that went unaddressed my inbox is always open. 🙂

Even the more passionate shippers don’t belittle other ships just because you don’t support the same ships as them.
Shipping is just one aspect of Once, it is not the basis of the show. Shipping comes about because of the story, not the other way round (If that happened then RumBelle’s screentime would be entirely one eternal lovefest).

I agree. What attracted to me Once first was the story. ‘Shipping comes second. I didn’t ‘ship anyone with anyone very heavily until ‘Skin Deep’.
I think the ‘shipping wars are pretty contained here on the forums. I hate them in general too because I know they can get really nasty real quick. I was a Star Wars fan before I was a Oncer, and I had fansite. (This was back during the prequels and the two big ‘ships were Anakin/Padme and Obidala.. I was an Obidala ‘shipper).
‘Shippers would come onto my fansite and treat it like it was their playground and harass me and other ‘shippers. Thankfully, none of that has been happening here. We all pretty much stay in our own respective ‘shipper threads. So, really, it could be worse. We could have bullies from both sides harassing each other. But thankfully, we don’t.
December 1, 2013 at 11:11 am #227168RumplesGirlKeymasterI always joke that when it comes to shipping, ONCE podcast is civilization. We my have a few issues on rare occasions but for the most part…we’re all very respectful and good friends.
*forum wide hug*

For the most part everyone is respectful. Giant hugs back!
But now everyone knows I could really care less who ends up with who as long as it is well written.
December 1, 2013 at 3:49 pm #227205kfchimeraParticipantI think a lot of people feel that way, but just have a preference one way right now. Then there are others that go on to feel (I know Suraya used to express this view) that there is no way some pairings could possibly be well-written. I’m not an absolutist, because I feel stories are inherently flexible creations, and these are not ‘real’ people where we know everything about them past or future. So much of what we think we know is based on the interpretations and assumptions we make!
No matter how many times I say it though, there are some who would put labels on me, some well-meaning, some not so much but what can you do? For the most part we are a friendly community here, and even if I ship, I’ve also expressed the opinion that no ship would be good too for some characters.I’ve always wanted good story more than anything but we all have different ideas of what makes a story good, don’t we?
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

And that is really the crux of it all. We all want a good story but we all have different ideas about what a good story IS. so in the end, it’s A and E’s and we should follow them where they lead us. They know their story better than we do.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 1, 2013 at 8:17 pm #227225kpercymanParticipantOkay that was a pretty hilarious video and summed up how everything perfectly. It even had Tinker Bell.
December 1, 2013 at 10:37 pm #227330swanning-offParticipantI’m an Anti-Shipper.
I just don’t care who ends up with whom. And there are some fandoms, and OUAT is a BIG offender of this, who take it all far, far, FAR too seriously.
People need to sit the **** DOWN and reflect on some key things:
- it is a TV show. Nothing more.
- ranting at the creators and actors makes you look like a moron.
- see #1 again.
