I’m wondering something. Could the apprentice have lied about his identity and he’s the sorcerer?

He did have a certain Yen Sid quality about him.

The apprentice told Zoso he had no idea what he’d unleash if he usef the hat. I think the hat was used to imprison the first Dark One: Chernabog. As the most powerful being it took a lot of magic to subdue him and would take a lot to unleash him. See, Rumpel thinks when he gathers enough magic, he can use it to be unstoppable and be free from the dagger, but really when the hat has absorbed enough power Chernabog will be strong enough to be set free. SOMETHING has to be inside that hat that is so bad it needs such protection. The apprentice said speicifally something would be unleashed. Something or someone is in that hat.

First the sorcerer is actually called “an old master of witchcraft/warlock” in the original poem, which I guess will not be important because they will focus on the Fantasia version and it seems the hat isn’t connected to witchcraft in any way. But there is something else which the poem is known for in the German-speaking area, which even the English Wikipedia article mentions:
Der Zauberlehrling is well known in the German-speaking world. The lines in which the apprentice implores the returning sorcerer to help him with the mess he has created have turned into a cliché, especially the line Die Geister, die ich rief (“The spirits that I called”), a garbled version of one of Goethe’s lines, which is often used to describe a situation where somebody summons help or uses allies that he cannot control, especially in politics.
So the line “The spirits that I called” stands for the entire situation when someone lose controle over the powers he played with or the powers he summoned. Now I’m wondering if the entire Sorcerer’s hat thing might lead Rumple into such a “The Spirits I called” situation or if the sorcerer is also the writer of the storybook Regina might get into something like that. Just a though that just came into my mind.
This is fascinating Clessidor, thanks for explaining that! 😀

The hat was made by Sylar, from Heroes.
He hitched a ride when Hiro was time traveling, and they landed somewhere they shouldn’t have.
(The distant past in a parallel universe.)
LOL! 😛
Because the hat does what Sylar does. (Only with less blood.)

I was totally think the first thing since I saw the hat…I was like, I wonder if Chernabog’s in there…I really hope so.
October 22, 2014 at 4:59 pm #286896MatthewPaulModeratorMan, if Chernabog really does ever appear on the show, I can already imagine the characters remarking about his name.

October 27, 2014 at 12:37 am #287615Hook’s GirlParticipantWould the hat just free the Dark One’s dependency of the dagger or would it free him of the DO curse altogether, losing one’s powers. I wonder if those trapped in the hat are good, evil or a mix. If the sorcerer is good, the those inside are probably evil. If the soccer is evil, then those in the hat are good. Might determine who ends up in the hat next. Or who might get freed.
