I’m calling it right now. Lots of Camelot name dropping this episode, once again. The house where the books and hat were found belong to the author of the book.
I’m telling you right now. The author is some amalgam of Merlin and YenSid and he lives in our world under the name Walter (but you can call him Walt)
Thoughts? Other ideas?

Merlin being the Sorcerer and author of the book just makes a lot of sense. I’m all for getting more Camelot either way, though.

I was really rooting for Yen Sid, but I guess Merlin will just have to do! 🙂

Still hopping for Yen Sid though.

Imagine my shock (and how fast I sat up from my position laying on the couch) when we sit down and the first flashback scene has Belle asking Rumple how his trip to Camelot was.
I’m on board with the Sorcerer being Merlin because I’ve been waiting for a proper dive into Arthurian waters since Lancelot, but this begs a bigger question:
Where the heck is he? Why is the house abandoned for Henry, Rumple, and half the town to go scavenger hunting around the halls? I speculated awhile ago that Merlin was in the hat without connecting him to the sorcerer, did he get tricked into his own hat? Because unless he’s incapacitated somehow, I don’t understand why this all-powerful, benign sorcerer would sit by and let Rumple go off with the hat and do all sorts of shady things in and around his home. I don’t know about any of you, but I wouldn’t just go on holiday, leave a WMD like that hat sitting around on my table and never check up on it again.

Merlin being a powerful wizard is well known, but whether he is the sorcerer and therefore the author isn’t totally clear. Merlin certainly could be the sorcerer, but the mention of Camelot could also be a huge misdirection. The author could even be a she, rather than a he, as Regina assumed. There really is no way to know the identity or even the author’s gender.

I’m wondering if the sorcerer set the whole thing up. Remember it was Belle who just happened upon what appeared to be an abandoned mansion for her and Rumple to squat in. And it was during his honeymoon that Rumple just “happened upon” the sorcerer’s hat. Now one could ask why the Author would do such a thing? Perhaps he (or she for that matter) wanted Belle to cast Rumple out into the cold, dark, Land Without Magic.

As a Stargate SG-1 fan, I like this. Walter was the gate operator; in other words, he controlled travel between realms.

The OUAT writers just love to fling red-herrings all over the place, which is making me suspicious about Merlin being the author/sorcerer. Although I definitely believe we’ll be visiting Camelot in 4b.

I basically think that the Author/Sorcerer is being set up to be ONCE’s version of “God” and A and E will pay the ultimate homage to Disney and name his human side, Walt.

Also we do in fact know it is a he. At the very end of the winter finale when Rumple is talking to Ursula at the aquarium, he says “for now let’s just call him the author”. He used the male pronoun so we are good on that front. Before I went back and checked that I thought maybe for a second that it could be Mary Poppins because wouldn’t that just be a kick in the pants! But it is not because it is a guy. So here are some wildly far-fetched ideas:
Professor Emelius Browne from Bedknobs and Broomsticks- Not a very good sorcerer, in fact he’s terrible but he did manage to use magic in our world. I don’t know I just went down the line of Disney films and looked for any male character that showed any magic. And if August interacted with him it would be in the real world. I don’t know, I didn’t think that all the way through but I just adore that movie but it’s probably too out there to bring into the show.
Zeus or Phil from Hercules- This is another wild guess. Honestly the only reason I am suggesting it was because in the Belle flashback during the winter finale, we saw all those Grecian helmets and things in Rumple’s house in the Enchanted Forest and I just thought that was odd. And Hades I am ruling out because why would a villain write stories where he would never win (that is also why I am not writing the names of any villains on this list).
Then there is the Yen Sid business. Yes it would be perfect, and yes his real world name could be Walter, Walt for short. And he is the most powerful so he can transcend stories and worlds and no one would bat an eye about it. But that is just such a cop out. WAY TOO EASY and predictable. The writers are better than that.
At the end of the day, the writers are going to surprise all of us anyway haha
