Going back to my question then, who named Rumple if not his mom? Was it his dad? I wonder if we’ll ever see a backstory of Rumple’s parents together.

Such an odd name (especially coming from a guy named Malcom)…… And I wonder what that means for Mr. Gold’s first name. What if, as apart of his curse, he doesn’t have a first name in SB to remind him of his mother’s abandonment.
But yeah, no, I’m just going to guess Rump was named by Malcom and its such a silly name as a way for Malcom to spite Rumps mother for leaving him with a child to raise when he clearly wasn’t interested for it.

Blue just kept looking at the baby. No matter what they do, she just comes off as weird because we don’t know her motivation and we don’t know her backstory.
November 28, 2016 at 12:59 am #330788GaultheriaParticipantThere has to be something else going on here. I still think Blue is evil and the black fairy has reasons her her behavior.
Rumpel said that the black fairy takes babies from their mothers’ arms, but all we’ve actually seen her do is show up for a child abandoned in the woods. She seems bitter, but after doing that for centuries I think anyone would have a sour outlook.

November 28, 2016 at 2:30 am #330789RandallParticipantoih new h’ere. Was shootin to say sonething bookish… decided not to. But if someone would like too, Id be much obliged … Much obliged …. means that it would be appreciated. Something on the subject of orphans, h’istoriclly in literature. folk literature … and Dickens. It seems to be a major axis… maybe … for Rumple . Although I want …. I shutter at some sort of idea of self-creation. Whatever the word is for that: Self-creation. I just get some creepy feeling that all the talk of child abandonment in Rumples life is a false premise or prehaps a one-off premise leading too a plot twist of some other-worldly conception of him . “AS IF” Rumple is really h’is own father…. and/or son, somehow, I dont know and… or some strange conception… By the gods .. or Virgin Birth.. Or more precisely in Rumples case , He was born by not being born…? …!…? Like the head hauncho of orphans! So , in my opinion, he might not really have parents at all. Because i think its a ploy too lead to some greater mystery of his nature… which has something sort of to do with child- abandonment or orphans.. or actually; non-existance. But I have no , folk references because I just now decided to join this forum. So i haven’t really looked into it. If someone would like to help me out .. I hope I made sense in what i am saying So any fairy tales of special children given up at birth. Or tales of beings who ‘dont’ exist within their own tales. Like Pan shadow. Or invisible men; the shoe cobbler elves; chesire cat. umm dream figures. prehaps …characters who ARE spirits.. like Casper the friendly ghost. Mr Marley. Chrismas future or past. But really non-existing existing ..Is what i think rumple is heading.. Because he has quite a aversive demonic quality , doesnt he. And i just cant recall , a folk lore which explicitly gives this sort explaination to what we think of the original Rumpelstiltskin by Brothers Grimm.

I won’t say no because on this show anything is possible but honestly I sorta doubt it. This reveal struck me as the writers trying to kill two birds with one stone. Go back through any number of Hot Seats and you’ll see two questions pop up almost without fail: will we ever see the Black Fairy and will we see Rumple’s mother?
A and E must know their show isn’t long for this world and I think it’s important to remember that these are two guys who worked on LOST and saw that, to this day, Damon and Carlton get hammered with “you didn’t answer any questions!” They want to avoid that so they’ve decided to answer questions as quickly and clumsily as possible. So sure, the Black Fairy became Rumple’s mother no matter how many questions it spawned at the same time.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 28, 2016 at 11:27 am #330799thedarkonedearieParticipantMy problem is that I don’t think the writers are going to go anywhere with this. Yeah, this opens up a lot of narrative doors but are they REALLY going to go down them? It took years of fans asking in the Hot Seat to finally give us this tiny morsel and I’m not convinced it was planned out in any meaningful way. I think it was “hey! They want to see the Black Fairy. They keep asking about Rumple’s mother. Two birds…one stone!”
Oh if this doesn’t get fleshed out….I’ll be so pissed. But let’s not condemn them for something they haven’t done yet. I didn’t see anyone predict Black Fairy could be Rumple’s mother so props for the reveal and keeping us in the dark. That hasn’t happened in awhile on this show. Great reveal, makes sense, now let’s see more of her. How did Rumple know she was his mother? How did she not know? Did Belle know this whole time? Did EQ know this whole time? These are answers I want. Now we may not get them but I can’t condemn the writers for something they haven’t done yet. I can grade them on the reveal which was awesome. Now let’s see if they give us more. Man they friking better or I’m going to end up getting all Mulan-angry again.

And it would make sense that EQ knew that when she teased it to Charming earlier this season. She established at the end of this episode that she knows Rumple’s mother was Black Fairy, or at least a fairy. And then she hinted that she knew who killed Charming’s dad. THAT”S BECAUSE IT WAS BLACK FAIRY….there is just no way they would give us that reveal, have Blue Fairy take Gideon away, and then not see Black Fairy again after that intense confrontation with what I thought was great acting by the woman who played her and her costume was on point as well.
November 28, 2016 at 11:33 am #330801thedarkonedearieParticipantHonestly, this reveal, makes me more concerned that Jafar will get thrown by the wayside, not Black Fairy.
November 28, 2016 at 11:40 am #330802thedarkonedearieParticipantAnd with this reveal will also come Mr. Gold’s first name. Is it possible Rumple was just the weird name given to him by his father? Maybe Black Fairy did name him before she abandoned him. This just opens up so many doors and the mythology of the fairies. So it will be interesting to see what they do in the back half of the season. Will it be about the mythology of the fairies and the Black Fairy’s emergence? Will it be about saving Agrabah and dealing with Jafar? Will it Savior mythology and dealing with Emma’s death sentence and dream? Or all three???!!! All three are very intriguing to me.
