I might have actually seen RC before Trainspotting in Hamish McBeth. I never really paid attention to that show, beyond the dog (as we had a West Highland White Terrier just like Wee Jock when I was a wee gel) but Mum loved it and watches it whenever she can.
I never saw this before I posted. It would appear that Wee Jock has stuck in quite a few people’s minds! π I was actually talking about the show with my Mum last week and she mentioned the dog too. π I actually remembered the wee dog more than I remembered Shirley Henderson playing the love interest (she played Isobel, according to Wikipedia).

Very sad but so good as well. Plan to get caught up on the others over the summer so I’m holding back on getting more until then. The summer will be very long!! This is a great thread!

March 9, 2013 at 12:44 am #178339Rumple LoveParticipantI never knew RC before OUAT and now I can’t get him out of my mind. True love!! I saw California Solo and loved it!! Amazing movie, wonderful story, and interesting characters. It was written with dear Bobby in mind and it was an excellent showcase for his range of acting! Love Full Monty and Ballroom dancing movie. I still have others to see though. Going to save for the long summer break. Have started SG but not a huge fan. Him as Dr. Rush is great though!! Watched the bath tub scene from Formula 51 per your suggestion. π π³ π
There are several movies of his I do not like; I can say he is an amazing actor. I do have to agree with several here. The potty mouth is a huge turn off when I am trying to watch a movie he is in. Still love him though!!!

(Rufus Sewell, add him to my most enjoyable bad guys list…Those green eyes, wow) Problem in OUATITM is that the characters just don’t have chemistry. The only bit of chemistry is between Shirley and Robert, but the script actually kills that. There isn’t a real story, there is no real comedy, just a lot of swearing. And to top it off there is no sypathy for the characters in the movie, which you find in a movie like Brassed off with Ewan Mc Gregor. In OUATITM they are all just not that likeable, so you don’t feel for them. And just as you do feel for Robert, who is really the only likeable figure, they kill that off by making him behave like an utter jerk.
SPOILER:
I mean even though he made his mistakes, you want him to end up with Shirley, because he loves her and she him, whereas Rhys Ifans is clearly just a placeholder, someone that's safe (and a wet blanket). And still she ends up with Rhys, rather then true love? Not to mention Robert all of a sudden start acting like an arrogant prick and Shirley says nothing. Which is so not like the roles she usually does, and which I love her for. She can be fierce, so small but so powerful, and that I love. Was a real dud for me. Same goes for Rhys Ifans, he does a GREAT manical delusional psycho. Potential for the actors to do what they are actually good at was zero.
The only saving grace of the movie is that MrCarlyle looks most delectable. I mean, he’s really gorgeous looking in it. So, turn off the sound and enjoy the viewMarch 12, 2013 at 9:03 pm #179421sanasusParticipantIn case anyone is interested in Bobby’s more gritty work, I’ve just discovered that you can watch Looking After JoJo on YouTube. I warn you, it might be pretty difficult to follow (think Trainspotting) as there are strong accents (same accent as my boyfriend’s incidentally) and a difficult subject matter (quality is pretty rubbish too).
March 12, 2013 at 9:30 pm #179429angiebelleParticipantIt’s funny..I didn’t think I was particularly attracted to Rumple/Gold, and I’m not usually the sort to moon over actors on tv….but in this past Sunday’s episode when he stood above Cora’s body with his partially bare chest- swoon!
I am a happily married woman, but that doesn’t mean I can’t admire a beautiful man!

That scene was…unf. Partially bare-chest, cold icy glare, that voice. Mmhm. I was perfectly happy to watch that scene over and over. And I’m not particularly attracted to Rumple either, I just think he’s one of the most fascinating and intricately drawn characters on TV right now. But yeah, that scene was bad@$$.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 12, 2013 at 11:49 pm #179490JosephineParticipantHow did I not know this thread existed and how did it make it to page three before I found it!
I think that scene of Gold standing with the dagger and the cane got almost every female watching it a little hot and bothered. We’d just seen him so vunerable between the call to Belle, his conversation with Neal and then his confrontation with Cora, that to see him like that was just…wow. Tumblr is going wild over that pic. Probably my favorite screenshot of Bobby to date. It’s like here is finally the ultimate combination of Rumplestitskin and Mr. Gold. Things are getting serious now. π
The first thing I remember seeing RC in was The Full Monty as a teenager with my parents. I still can’t look at garden gnomes the same way after that movie. It’s one of my top favorite movies of all time. I had a bit of a crush on him and the chubby Marc Addy in that movie. Imagine my surprise when I realized by about “The Price of Gold” that my crush on Rumple wasn’t as odd as I thought it was because I learned he was the same guy in The Full Monty and I had already had one on him as a teenager.
Crushes are unusual for me. I don’t get them often. I can only name a handful of men I find really intriguing and attractive on television or in the movies. But Robert Carlyle is definitely one of them.
Keeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.
