When watching the commentary on the DVD of “Skin Deep” Jane Espenson commented that originally a dove figured heavily in the story, and was meant to be a recurring image. A dove delivered news to Belle’s father that the latest battle had been lost, later in a deleted scene a dove sent word to Belle that they had won the war, and Belle tried to escape the dark castle, etc. In the Storybrooke part of the episode Mr. Gold’s assistant – who took the truck from Mo is listed in the credits as “The Dove” – a deliberate connection according to Ms. Espenson to the dove in FTL.
Given these connections, I think it’s quite likely that Mr. Gold sent the dove in the beginning of “Broken.”

October 1, 2012 at 7:09 pm #154932cruel_fortunaParticipantI thought it was a pigeon however, if you want to call it a dove, I’ll agree with you for that sake.
I’ll also tell you that doves are synonymous with ‘peace’ & ‘hope’.October 1, 2012 at 8:32 pm #154948rcaret7zParticipantI’m a bit skeptical as to whether it matters if the bird was a pigeon or a dove. I think what the writers are attempting to convey/portray is that this new guy may be the next character who enters SB. As a means to introduce the character (perhaps?), I have noticed a few things as M.R.J. (aka the actor who plays our “Mysterious Man”) enters the room; the clocks on the shelves next to his door and what appears to be a few antique microphones at the top of the shelf and a record player/stereo radio to the right of his window?
Could he be just a simple collector of antique odds and ends or someone else entirely ❓
[offtopicranting]Though I’m sad he dropped his mp3 player… :entersadfaceofchoicehere: I kept thinking, DON’T DROP IT! 😯 Then of course he drops it and I’m thinking to myself, why did that have to happen to an mp3 player?!? He must not have really wanted it or he would’ve set it down on his bed where he dropped his bag/satchel. Might have also given him some extra grip to shut the window too! 😉 (okay enough of my off topic rantings)[/offtopicranting]

Much like the dove/pigeon in story brooke, news is being delivered after a battle is supposedly won.
and we saw the birds during Mary Margrets rescue of the dove last season.
in the origanal animated snow white… white birds were seen around the wishing well.
My Theory right now, is that August sent the dove, and that he is connected to the new character M.R.J who i think may be Wait for it…..Peter Pan. Both Characters Pinocchio and peter pan were symbols of youth and we know a peter pan story is coming up. I arrive at this theory because of the clocks..as for the microphones and mp3 player maybe he’s a musician…
only other theory is that Mr. gold’s assistant, can turn into a dove and might be a spy. but we haven’t seen much of him so i’m not confident on that theory.. but a fun thing to think about.

He did mention having to make a trip, so that makes me think he already knew where Bae was (i refuse he is anyone else until i hear otherwise on the show) but the question that leaves was how would Bae know about the curse. The way MRJ played it, he knew what the word meant but Gold didn’t get his memory back until Emma got there.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

October 3, 2012 at 12:56 pm #155260faux paxParticipantAriel, K&H have actually said otherwise.

I think they said he didn’t and that’s why he needed Emma’s name to trigger his memory

Bae could have found out about the curse from either AWB or Jefferson.
AWB was living out in the real world for 28 years and had his memory intact. He could have easily come in contact with Bae and relayed what happened.
Jefferson was a realm jumper. I also believe that Bae went to many other worlds prior to arriving in the real world. That’s why the Blue Fairy told him to follow the bean, wherever it led him. I’m certain the two of them have crossed paths.
Another thing I’ve wondered about. Do you think that perhaps that apartment may have been AWB’s apartment? He liked old things. His bike & typewriter as an example. Wondering if perhaps they roomed together?
