I was wondering if he was Mushu as well but that would make me so sad since he seemed dead and all. I really want Mulan’s backstory or at least a tie in.

Could “The Dragon” be a “God” figure who somehow is in the land without magic??? I don’t think he died, but the human form was just stunned. Very fascinating character. I’ve been wondering about the whole back story to the overall power behind the Dark One and whether or not there were counter-characters such as a “Good One”??? Ok..clearly this show is consuming me… š š
I like this idea. He has to be alive (or I would like him to be) because it seems so odd to build him to being this mystical man/creature and then bam dead. It would of course depend on that taser if it was meant to kill or absorb.
I was wondering if there are alternate dimensions of our world (was thinking of Fringe mostly) where there may be alternate universes that has magic, different technology (think Victorian steampunk) and because of this it may be possible to traverse into our world (whether able to leave?) something where we can be accessed by other worlds but worlds like FTL and the like have to take a serious of steps rather than directly coming to our world.
Or like in the Charles De Lint stories where we have the spirit world that can be accessed that leads to many different worlds and have it’s own ways and rules. Then in one story we have a world where the beloved stories have come to life and whose existence is rooted in this belief.

The only other dragon I can remember from Mulan is the Stone Dragon, but that one never actually came alive in the movie. I can’t really think of any other dragons that Disney has used but I’m sure there must be some others in Chinese or other Asian legends. I guess I’ll have to do some research…

Yes, you may be onto something there. Remember the “dream realm” where sleeping curse people went? That seemed connected to all worlds.
I also think the Dragon is out there, that Tamara just forced him out of his shell form in this world.
Also, with his wisecrack to August “For someone who spent his entire life running, you think you would be in better shape…”…maybe he is Mushu….it would sound sassier in Eddie Murhphy’s voice, but I got a hint of attitude from the Dragon in OUAT.
āIf I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?ā -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

As to who he is though, maybe he is some sort of portal jumber like Jefferson.
March 25, 2013 at 9:34 pm #182265mondschneeParticipantI saw a Mushu like attitude too.
If he is a magical being it seems odd that he wants to be payed in our world except he is Mushu beause it would fit to his personality I think.
And he seems a bit funny in his acting I think . In Germany a very famous comedian speaks Mushu would be great if they would dub the dragon with him to have a clue. But I think when OUAT season 2 airs in Germany the identity will be clear at this time :pMarch 26, 2013 at 4:09 pm #182376SlurpeezParticipantThe Dragon: It was this string your father used to animate you as a freshly carved puppet. In a way it first gave you life. It will serve as payment for your soul.
It sounds like Pinocchio made a deal with the devil since the Dragon wanted Pinocchio’s soul. Could the Dragon be a wraith in disguise? Mulan called the wraith the Qui Shen, that is a “soul-sucker, ” and so it has a Chinese tie-in. The wraith cannot be killed because, according to Regina, it is already dead. If the Dragon was the Qui Shen in human form, then he didn’t really die, since the spirit wasn’t really alive to begin with. Adam and Eddy said at Paley Fest that the first part of the season would tie in nicely with the last part. I have a feeling the Qui Shen could make a reappearance as Mulan and Aurora search the netherworld for Philip’s lost soul.

That’s interesting. Might be worth going back and rewatching S/B and T to see if the symbol of the Wraith from the medallion was anywhere in the Dragon’s room. The only problem I see is that August says a few days after Tamara’s run in with the Dragon, he went back to beg him to heal his woodeness. The Dragon was still lying there “dead.” So was the human we saw just a shell for the wraith inside? When Tamara zapped it, it fled the shell to return to its world where it waited until Rumple summoned it?

That’s what I’m thinking happened. As a spirit, the Wraith could potentially take on any human form, and since he’s not from our world, the Wraith could simply return to the Netherworld when it leaves a human body behind. As the Dark One, Rumplestiltskin used his dark magic to summon the Wraith from the Netherworld through the medallion, which could be a kind of portal to the Netherworld. Mulan said the moaning sounds coming from the medallion are sounds of lost souls, which we know from Cora are trapped in a place (probably the Netherworld).
