Looks like Regina’s attempt to destroy the EQ failed and her more evil self is out for blood. How do you think this will play out in S6? Can the EQ ever be tamed without some magical device? Can the EQ and Regina find common ground?

And I guarantee you the episode where they finally make peace with one another, and unite back together will be called “We Are One”.

I’m glad Regina wasn’t able to kill the Evil Queen that easily, either. Now my original theory was that Regina would transform back and forth into the Evil Queen, but I’m not sure which is better. That would have felt like a retread of the Spell of Shattered Sight. Plus, I think it’s pretty fun and interesting to see Regina come face to face with the Evil Queen. If I had to guess, more characters could also be separated with the formula. Why do I have the feeling that Rumple is one of those characters? What happens to Rumple if he’s separated from his evil side? Does Evil Rumple take all of the Dark Ones powers, or will both halves still have the Dark Ones powers?

Yuuuup. I think that’s his season 6 arc too. Though I think it’ll Dark One Rumple vs Spinner Hero Father Rumple. The bigger question is who wins.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 15, 2016 at 10:16 pm #323792AKAParticipantHow is Evil Queen alive with a crushed heart? Is she like a shadow of the actual Regina? I like the exploration of the dark and light sides, but not the idea that we can just magic away the parts of ourselves we don’t like. I think a better eventual message would be that we accept ourselves as we are the good and the bad decisions and that we learn from our mistakes so that we can become better people. We grow through our mistakes as well as our triumphs.

Now that I think about it…this would really make the villains see their worse selves…
If separating Regina brought out the Evil Queen, if separating Mr. Gold brought out the Dark Dark Rumplestilskin, if separating Zelena brought out the Wicked Witch of the West, and if separating Killian brought out Captain Hook…
We all thought Civil War would be Heroes vs Villains but what if it’s Anti-Heroes vs Villains?
Regina, Zelena, Mr. Gold, & Killian vs The Evil Queen, The Wicked Witch of the West, The Dark One Rumplestilskin, & Captain Hook….now that theme of facing your inner demons for Season 6 would really be entertaining!

I agree with all of this. The idea that you can just destroy part of you identity is really not okay and actually not really in line with some of the themes of the show thus far, so like Matt, I’m glad the EQ came back though I’d prefer it be Regina transitioning back and forth since that’s more in line with Jekyll and Hyde.
As for the heart…yeah no idea. I asked the same question when it aired.

Agreed. We’ve had the heroes face the villains, and we’ve had the former villains backslide before. But we’ve never seen the former villains/anti-heroes directly face off against their evil selves. This gives the writers the opportunity to bring back those evil versions, but with a new twist. Not to mention, they’re running out of prime characters that can hold an entire arc as a sole new big bad. .
May 15, 2016 at 10:43 pm #323798RumplesGirlKeymasterThis raises the question of how everyone gets separated, though. Does Hyde do it? Wasn’t there only enough serum for Regina’s NYC rooftop separation? Does Hyde get Jekyll to make more?
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 15, 2016 at 11:17 pm #323809Sci-Fi GirlParticipantAll I could think when she was splitting in two was … B’Elanna Torres, when her two warring halves were separated.
And I think the conclusion here must be the same. It is all parts of you, and how you combine them, that makes you a whole person. Even the parts you don’t like, even the parts you don’t act on, even if you channel those drives into something else … everything you accomplish is a result of those things. Either by transforming your negative traits, or by overcoming them. If we were all one dimensional, the world would be a far less colorful place.
Because, I thought that Regina’s earlier speech in the apartment was the most powerful set of words in the history of this show! About knowing the darkness, and the good, and knowing the consequences of each, and still choosing the good! I think that makes Regina the most amazing hero of all! Because when she chooses good, it means so much more than it does for those people who are instinctively good. It takes so much more strength, and has so much more purpose, because it is deliberate not default!!!
So of course it is wrong for Regina to try to get rid of the dark inside her. It is what makes her her! It is what makes her strong!
And when she accepts that the Evil Queen is truly part of her, to be embraced and accepted as much as any other part of her personality, then she will be stronger than ever!
SFG 😀
Edit: Shades of “Wizard of Earthsea”, too. 🙂
