After some time to think about it, I am now suspicious about what really happened to Charming’s dad. For all we know Charming wasn’t told the truth. Charming’s dad could have died in some other mischievous fashion, or possibly even still alive. After all, Charming only said what he was told, but he nor the audience actually saw the death. I mean Baelfire was told Milah had been killed, so who’s to say there isn’t a cover-up for Charming’s dad, too?

That is a a very interesting point, I must admit as the story was being told I was expecting that the conclusion was that he left the family rather than died. When the death came up I still had a rather cynical response of “No Body No Death”  maybe we will find that there is something more, like a new branch of the twisted family tree that has yet to be uncovered.

For right now, it’s true. But if they want to someday bring on Charming’s father, this is how they’ll get around it.

Right, because no dead body was shown on the show, they could come up with something if they need to, thought still would find it rather contrived. Aside that the whole dialogue sounded like the fairy tale description of a typical drama show moment, father drunkard, got drunken, died in car crash, uhm carT crash, just luckily no other family member in the cart or so. I had a laughing fit at the end (because of the “wreckage of our cart at the bottom of a ravine”) and so the whole serious emotional drama moment for David was lost on me. Nevertheless I don’t think at this point they plan this to be a fake story.

    ¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

I remember reading somewhere that Adam and Eddy wanted the actor who played Sawyer on Lost for a specific role on Once and after reading that interview, I compared a pic of Josh Holloway and Josh Dallas and seriously, JH could be Charming’s dad I think. If we ever got that backstory one day. And I’m calling it now, JH would be Charming’s father.
