I was walking home from work today and the thought suddenly hit me that I, in part, could be responsible for Once’s demise. Have we done enough to support the show? Aside from it being something that we all enjoy watching it is also the lifeblood for it’s cast and crew, for the network employees etc When Supernatural’s cancellation was imminent, fans stood to arms and fought. The same has happened with countless other shows, some of which were granted a reprieve. I feel as if our voice as a fandom is pretty quiet at the moment. If the execs were reading these boards to assist their decision making, then the show would be doomed. This is really sad.
I feel as though, despite the strong message of hope within the show, we haven’t really done all that much to support Adam and Eddy. Yes, people don’t always love the choices they make, or the direction the show goes in, but overall they have brought us something that has provided great enjoyment over the years. This show is closer to cancellation than it has ever been before. The fact that we have not had a confirmation of it’s renewal yet is really worrying. I for one don’t love it as much as I used to, but I still believe that I would truly miss it if it wasn’t on our screens every Sunday night.
Watching last nights episode I almost felt as if Adam and Eddy were speaking directly to us. Asking for help. I couldn’t help but feel that Emma is almost a metaphor for the show itself at the moment, and the sad thing is that we have all accepted it’s fate rather than attempting to fight it.
So I guess I’m putting the question out there – do you still believe? Or have we given up on the core message of this show, have we lost hope?

This is a nice sentiment and all but here’s my take: all shows get cancelled. It’s the nature of the beast and if that sounds overly harsh then here’s a slightly more positive spin–all stories have an ending.
I get that maybe people don’t want to see their favorite/former favorite show go off air and it’s hard to say goodbye but at its core OUAT has always been about Emma Swan’s hero’s journey. She’s come full circle–orphan, friendless, hopeless to having friends, family, and a destiny. She’s become self-actualized with a sense of worth and importance. The story is over. I’d rather see it end on a high, acknowledging that “the end” is how fairy tales end, than to see the show try to torture itself for another year, grasping at a narrative that is past making sense potentially with characters who don’t mean anything to an audience.
Yeah, Adam and Eddy are losing their show but that’s how TV works. They’ll be back. They’ll come up with another idea–during OUAT’s tenure they’ve actually done TWO other shows! That’s what writers do. Damon Lindeloff moved on to the Leftovers. Carlton Cuse moved on Bates Motel. Joss Whedon moved on to Dollhouse and the Marvel Universe.
It’s not about losing hope or that we aren’t fighting hard enough. It’s time, that’s all.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 6, 2017 at 6:36 pm #333842MatthewPaulModeratorHere’s some food for thought. Even if OUAT does end soon, that doesn’t necessarily mean the franchise as a whole is dead. More stories could be told in either novel or comic book form. There’s even a new novel about Regina coming out later this year. Perhaps various dropped storylines could be answered within that manner, like how the comic “Out of the Past” included Jefferson’s backstory with his wife, which was teased back in Season 1. Plenty of genre shows have gone that route since ending their respect TV runs, and I think OUAT has that potential. Especially since books are much cheaper to produce, and aren’t at the mercy of filming schedules with actor availability.

It’s also worth pointing out that no franchise ever really ends. Fan fic, fan art, cons, ect continue even when the show is done.

That too. I most certainly think that OUAT will continue to have a cult following regardless of whatever happens. Though my point was that canon material for the show won’t necessarily die either, if Disney still sees some profitability in it. I have to wonder how much they’re making off of the Once Upon a Time conventions, since they officially partnered up with Creation Entertainment to do them. They started a year ago already, and have continued to this day with several more occurring throughout the year.

It is about the inconsistencies of the characters, the terrible world building, and the lack of character growth. This show is bad and Adam and Eddy should not show run anymore. They can go back to writing where they should have stayed.
Like others have said, all shows end and this show should have ended years ago. The majority of the characters haven’t had an arc in three seasons. Now they are going to finish off things that should have never happened and some of the main actors may leave. This show is done.
