It’s Father’s Day. Last Mother’s Day, there was a very brief discussion on OUAT mother’s. This Father’s Day, for the most part, we’ve seen good father’s on our beloved show with some bad seeds (King George).
But I think we can all agree, in the pilot, Charming was the best (& sexiest) baby daddy, fighting off the Evil Queen’s guards, carrying baby Emma to the wardrobe. Charming with a sword and carrying a baby. 😆 That’s some serious daddy skills.
My least favorite OUAT dad is King George (no explanation needed for that one, I think). But he was horrible to Charming, threatened to kill his mom, cursed Snow so she couldn’t have kids, threatened to kill Charming if Snow didn’t break it off with him in Enchanted Forest and in Storybrooke, he killed Guss Gus.
Who are your favorite & least favorite dad’s on Once Upon a Time and why?

Favorite: Obisgirl said Charming and I fully agree. I’m also very fond of pre-DO Rumple and Baelfire.

Jefferson and Grace are my favorite–that stuffed bunny he makes her!George is nasty, no doubt. I’m going to pick on King Leo for a second. He seemed really great at first in Poisonous Tree, like world’s best dad material–but what was up with him not being there when Eva is dying and Snow is losing her mother? (I know actor availabiity + Plot necessity). Then to drag poor Snow around so he can get a replacement mother–no one would replace Eva, and certainly all those “endless ” trips were not letting Snow really get her mind off it. Plus, we all know how THAT turned out–even if Regina wasn’t so bad when he married her, something was off there.
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

I forgot about Moe, but yes, I agree.

.
I did seem odd, and there was no mention of him in the episode where she died that he had a hard time getting back to the castle or something. Even if there were issues trying to get the actor back, I would have been happy with even the smallest mention b/c he’s at least making an effort to be there. And that always counts.
I agree, dragging Snow around while looking for a wife, didn’t seem that necessary. But I like to think, anyone marrying a guy who already has a kid, you’re not just marrying the guy, the woman has to be compatibile with the kid too. That’s probably why little Snow was there.

My favorite: Charming, no doubt. He missed out on being a dad and now he’s trying as hard as he can to be a father to a nearly 30 year old woman when he’s nearly 30 years old himself. He became a father and a grandfather all in one day and he’s trying his best and I think he has super powers where his hugs actually make people feel better. That’s a good skill a father needs.
Least: Rumple . He’s killed so many people in front of his son it’s truly amazing that Neal isn’t some effed up violent crazy person.

He’s always been there for Bae (except for that time he broke his promise to go with him through the green portal of doom to our world). But everything he does, post-Milah’s leaving and post-Bae’s leaving, is for him. He created the Dark curse for him, so he could come to our world and find him.
Some of his actions maybe he questionable, but he loves his son and the scene of baby Bae playing with Rumpel’s nose in Manhattan, too cute!
I’m actually curious about Hook’s father and wonder if we will ever meet him in the future. A lot of fans have speculated that his daddy is Davy Jones and maybe he is, but I would love a different take.
June 16, 2013 at 4:38 pm #198520PriceofMagicParticipantI think Charming represents the ideal father. He loves his family and will fight for them. He’s always there for his family and will always try to help those in need. He is a positive male role model, brave and understanding.
Rumple represents the father with the addiction. Rumple loves Bae but his addiction to magic means Bae is sometimes second best. Bae remembers Rumple before his addiction took hold and he wants Rumple to go back to the man he was before magic. Rumple travelled to find Bae to reunite and make amends for letting Bae go through the portal alone. However Rumple’s solution to all the hurt was to want to use magic to turn Bae back into a 14 year old boy and effectively erase all the mistakes rather than learn from them. Belle represents a second chance for Rumple. She inspires him to want to sort his life out and be the best he can be. It was to her that Rumple admitted his reliance on magic and that is the first step in overcoming an addiction, admitting you have a problem.
All magic comes with a price!

June 16, 2013 at 7:40 pm #198526Killian JonesParticipantWhen Bae gets ditched in the diner by Henry that’s probably the dad moment that made me laugh the most. “You bought that? He’s your son”
June 16, 2013 at 8:22 pm #198528PriceofMagicParticipantI think Bae may make the mistake of trying to be Henry’s friend rather than his father. Bae has been absent from Henry’s life for so long that he may feel that he doesn’t have the authority to discipline Henry. Likewise with Emma, she has only been Henry’s mother for a short while and she still learning how to do that. Whenever Henry’s acted out, such as the dynamite incident, he’s never had to deal with any consequences as a result of his actions. Everyone has sort of just let it go. Regina, who would’ve had to discipline Henry when he was growing up, now feels that she is in competition with Emma for Henry’s affections. Regina may feel reluctant to discipline Henry for any bad behaviour in case it make Henry like Emma more than her.
All three parents want to be the “fun” one for Henry but are reluctant to take on the “bad guy” role. This could result in Henry turning into a problem teenager when he grows up as a result of not learning that his actions have consequences.
All magic comes with a price!
