It’s here! The final battle between Gideon and Emma finally took place with seemingly almost no solution: only light could snuff out light but Emma sacrificed herself to avoid killing Gideon. What did you think of the much anticipated final battle? Did it live up to the all the hype? What did you think of the final Curse by the Black Fairy?

So at least we actually had Gideon fighting Emma and Emma getting stabbed. I liked that she was willing to sacrifice herself instead of killing Gideon. I did not like the light vs. light that made no sense. I did like that if Emma killed Gideon who was only doing this because he did not have a choice that it would darken her heart, and therefore darkness would win. Now I know it is self defense but there should be some consequences of being the savior and it should be a willingness to die for what is right. It is not Gideon’s fault that he is trying to kill her so for her to kill him knowing this would darken her heart.
Did it live up to all the hype? Well I thought it was an interesting way to do a battle. It was a battle for belief which I liked because it paralleled the first season and the actualization of Emma becoming a true savior. Which is the belief in a happy ending. So for this particular show which was supposed to be about belief and hope I thought it was appropriate.

This makes a lot of sense and its a shame the show didn’t properly explain that way. Or if they did it went over my head. I just figured they were saying the savior should not kill at all no matter what, even in self defense.
But yeah, no the final battle wasn’t as…epic as I wanted it to be. We’ve seen plenty of sword fights so I wanted an actual magical battle to end all magic battles. Although I loved Emmas dialog, I loved the light show when she gets stabbed by Gideon and ultimately I’m pleased with the way things turned out.
When good and evil do the right thing, then the final battle is won? See, that makes no sense to me just because good and evil have kind of been working together a lot in this show.
The black fairy’s curse (and her goals in general) were all pretty bleh to me and I wish she could have been a more formidable villain.

Like, it was cute and neat, but all the hype of “The Final Battle”, “The Final Battle”, “The Final Battle” and all we received was swords clashing for a second, Emma’s speech, shining light, and then Baby Gideon. Really?!!! That’s it?!!! Huge letdown, but what’s done is done!!!
And the Black Fairy’s Curse….I’m sorry, but this woman literally ran a realm full of absolute darkness and all her curse did was make a replica of Storybrooke. Her threat level was high before the curse, but during it…it just felt so…ordinary.

I liked that Emma sacrificed herself, and I like that Rumple made the right choice. I thought it was a good way to end both character’s arcs. And then Rumple is rewarded by getting to rasie Gideon with Belle and Emma gets rewarded by getting resurrected by Her son’s TLK.

I agree I actually thought it was a fairly powerful message and I like it.
