Question: So does Rumpel know how this final battle is going to end? Because he predicted the final battle in the first season….so….did he foresee this? And if so, why didn’t he try to warn them earlier or something?

He’s always said that his ability to see the future isn’t precise so I doubt he knew the ending to the final battle (just like he couldn’t see that Henry was his grandson born of Emma and Neal).

Out of the Onceiverse, he did not warn them because the writers didn’t know what the Final
    Battle was in S1.

Did they ever explain where/when/how Rumple lost his ability to see the future?

I think they acted like Rumpel just saw flashes of the future. Like he knew that Emma’s last name was Swan, but he needed Snow to tell him Emma’s first name so when he heard it at the end of the pilot he would regain his memories. There is no evidence that Rumpel just sees all of the future, but rather that he just sees short, disjointed visions of some sort.

As Rumple said, “the future is a puzzle with many pieces to be solved”.

With him just getting tiny glimpses of the future, they really missed out on a spinoff opportunity called “That’s So Rumple.” The theme song wouldn’t even need much tweaking:

“You can gaze into the future(future, future)
You might think life would be a breeze(as long as I say “Please!”)
Seeing trouble from a distance(Yeah!)(go Rump)
But then it’s not that easy(oh no)
I try to save the situation
Then I end up misbehavin’ (ohohohoh)”

Watsonian explanation is Rumple lost this power when he died.

Doylist explanation is the writers stopped following some sort of outline or plan so they couldn’t have Rumple “foresee” events they didn’t know about in advance.

Gaultherian explanation: It never was prophecy, it was the Black Fairy telepathically telling the truth when it suited her.

A bit off tangent, but I remember there being lots of similar story books in Merlin’s apprentice’s home (?). Are they all separate stories or one long one, I wonder. Were they all blank? (I remember the one they looked at was). Whatever happens at the end of Henry’s book, maybe there is still hope, because their stories can be written in the next books on the apprentice’s home. Or maybe one book is one reset if things go wrong?

Yes they were blank, IIRC. There were also books in the library in NYC when Henry and Violet went to do research. I don’t think anything has come of either of those two sets of books?
