Watsonian explanation is Rumple lost this power when he died. Doylist explanation is the writers stopped following some sort of outline or plan so they couldn’t have Rumple “foresee” events they didn’t know about in advance.
I think it is that it is just inconvenient to the writers to have Rumpel seeing the future be part of the plot. They only used it a few times and i think it was a real mistake anyways. Before that he was a character who was smart and had a long game manipulative plan. After that he is just a character who sees the future and so he knows who to interact with and in what way, so he isn’t smart, he is just going where the visions make him go.
The writers probably don’t remember that was even part of his character anymore though. They don’t remember half the things that happened on this show.

In season 2 I believe he told Henry he lost the power when the curse was broken or something. I vaguely recall the conversation. The power wasn’t originally his to begin with after all. Also I’m season 3 he was attempting to see the future in never land and it wouldn’t work. Although Felix stated it was because Neverland has no future. So idk. He hasn’t done any future seeing in many, many years.

Are they all separate stories or one long one, I wonder. Were they all blank? (I remember the one they looked at was).
Yes they were blank, IIRC. There were also books in the library in NYC when Henry and Violet went to do research. I don’t think anything has come of either of those two sets of books?
No, the (blank?) books have not been mentioned since, which I really don’t get because they seem important to the mythology, and seem relevant to the upcoming plot arc. I hope they will include them again, and perhaps their inclusion will answer some of your questions in your top post.

And people are saying that the writers didn’t plan this season 6 ending storyline back then when they said “the final battle.” That they probably meant the final battle to breaking the curse etc. In the scene, it is assumed he is talking about Emma bc that’s who he was talking about throughout the conversation. What if it isn’t her though? We know that Rumple’s future seeing abilities are blurry and don’t show the whole picture. So what if the “child” isn’t Emma. What if it’s Gideon? Didn’t A&E say that we would see another Savior this season or am I making that up? I guess we saw Aladdin but with all this talk of Gideon trying to be a hero, and they really are shoving that down our throats, perhaps he is destined to become a Savior, especially if Emma takes a bow and exits or is killed or gets her Saviorhood stripped away. Or at the very least, if we are also sticking with the prophecy, perhaps “the boy” (Gideon) will be Rumple’s undoing, for those of us who think that actually hasn’t happened yet. And if it was Gideon and not Emma Rumple was talking about (unbeknownst to him), then the “final battle” comment makes more sense and less like they meant just breaking the first curse from season 1. Even though that’s obviously what they meant but this would be a good cover up. Idk, just something to chew on.
April 14, 2017 at 3:46 pm #336102SlurpeezParticipantAnyone want to hazard a guess as to why Henry was writing in runes instead of English for the Final Chapter/Battle?
It’s elvish
Suuuuure but whyyyyyy?
Do you want the in-story reason or the out-of-story reason? If the first, then it’s because of magic. If the latter, then it’s so we, the audience, couldn’t read the ending. No spoilers! 😀
Of course, knowing this audience, someone will try and decipher it the way we did the Greek message in Firebird. Has anyone managed to figure it out yet?

I had translated it for the podcast way back when. And i think I translated it for the filming thread when we had a close up of the words. Check there?

Do you mean the Greek message from Firebird or the most recent “Final Chapter” in Mother’s Little Helper? I recall that you successfully translated the Greek message to mean “only a heart full of true love could pass” (or something like that), but that it wasn’t clear because the word was agape, the Greek word for divine love, not eros, the Greek word for romantic love. To clarify, I wonder if anyone has figured out how to decipher runes to read the Final Chapter. 😀

It’s a very interesting concept, but I doubt the writers had this ending planned. I don’t think the writers intended for the Dark Fairy to be the mother of Rumple. Most of all, I also don’t think the writers knew that Rumple and Belle would have a son together. Sure, there was potential for Belle to come back and eventually have a family with Rumple, but I don’t think their child was necessarily meant to be the next savior. Yes, it would be a good twist now in the story, especially because Gideon and Emma’s stories have a lot in common. However, I think the writers have come up with this idea only in the past few seasons. Belle being pregnant was probably due to Emily de Ravin being pregnant in the real life, similar to how Snow being pregnant with Baby Snowflake was due to Ginny Goodwin being pregnant for the first time in real life. But I do like this new Gideon twist. I think it adds a good final twist to the story. I found this episode really interesting.

Oh sure. Yeah, I agree there.
Prophesy can be fun, if done right. It reminds me of seasons two and three when Rumple debated whether the boy who would be his undoing would be Henry, but it might really have been Peter Pan. Now, I wonder if it could be Gideon. LOL!

Whoops my bad. To clarify my end then, lol: No translation for the current thing but I’m not sure they are runes. Think @gaultheria is right–its shorthand like a journalist might use. Which fits nicely with Henry’s role as the author and keeps us spoiler free, like you said
