Ariel can show him that not all mermaids are the same!

YES!

I don’t think Hook personally hates mermaids, but he has heard or experienced them as creatures to be wary of, just like people were afraid and hated werewolves. Now that I think about it, if Hook has met Ariel before he does not know she is a mermaid.“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Do we know for sure that he hasnt met a mermaid?

Thats what I was thinking, we know Hook is not to fond of them but we don’t know he hasn’t met one, he may think all mermaids are the same, or has had a bad experience himself with one

So if Hook had met Ariel, he wouldn’t dismiss all mermaids as monsters in the water, which is how his line came off. Then again, Red was a pretty notable exception (and I guess Granny too).
I really do see Ariel taking Red’s place in a lot of ways, in terms of whatever story they originally may have planned for Red (other than with Whale….). In terms of her relationship to the others, as a “friend” and as a misunderstood creature of magic, just to clarify this.

August 21, 2013 at 11:07 am #206080RumplesGirlKeymasterI think it’s possible that Ariel has been shunned by the mermaid community and is living an isolated life. Hook may have encountered her sisters and sees them as baddies who will drown you without having met Ariel.

Whatever else in my headcanon has constantly changed, one thing that stayed the same for the most part is that I don’t think he knows she was a mermaid. I imagine him having been friends with her as a human the last time he was in NL, but not finding out until present day that she was a mermaid, and him discovering that messes up their relationship, but he eventually comes to terms with it and accepts her for who she is.
