ParticipantNice catch! Get it? Catch of the day. Ok, I need to stop.
The Houses! I am convinced they are referencing Anderson’s story now. Incidentally while the Netherlands are not associated as much with rum toting pirates, they did have colonies that were (though stylistically the buildings definitely did not resemble Curacao for example). It just sort of ties in somehow in my mind that Hook ‘s backstory involves attacking Eric’s Kingdom’s colonies/trade routes.
Denmark is the home of Hans Christian Anderson and therefore the origin of “The Little Mermaid.” The statue of the little mermaid famously sits in Copenhagen, Denmark to commemorate the story.

ParticipantThey didn’t look anything alike, but when Hans Christian Anderson made a cameo on the little mermaid tv series his hair was in a pony and he had on a blue and yellow navy looking coat, just saying lol

ParticipantAh, so many delicious little hints. Maybe we’re reading too much into it, but just maybe we’ll eventually be able to look back on these things and call them foreshadowing. 😉

ParticipantOh we’re reading too much into it, but that’s the fun.

ParticipantEven though it looks increasingly like Ariel and Eric are going to be “canon”, I thought I’d share this lovely fan art with you all before we know for certain:

ParticipantEven if Ariel and Eric do end up together, I won’t be too mad, because both the actors are so adorable and excited about the show that I know I’m gonna love both characters. Hookriel will always have a special little place in my heart though, even if they’re never canon.
I do hope we get to see them interact at some point. If she’s been in NL, and he’s been in NL, then surely they’ll interact at some point, right? Especially given how much he hates mermaids, it’d just be too much fun to pass up showing him conversing with the sweetest mermaid ever.

ParticipantI think Hookriel shimmers with potential, and though I know it is most probable that the writers in this commercial for the masses form of entertainment known as network tv will be most likely to take the road already taken, I will quietly hope on for this little twist, but I will enjoy whatever they do with Ariel. I’m just excited for Ariel to be on the show, and love that the actress playing her has the same two favorite princesses as me (Belle and Ariel). Colin’s done a great job with Hook, so I’m sure the writers will have a great story in mind for him regardless of what “ship” they do or do not put Hook in.
The Road Not Taken
By Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

ParticipantSo I absolutely loved loved this episode! and though Eric was no Hook I was okay with it. I still love Hookriel, and this episode did provide some doubt on the Ariel and Eric are Hook’s parents theory–for surely Eric isnt
