Completely understandable Phee! I'm starting to get more on board with the idea because it's Hook that is saying there's a “curse of the mermaids” so it would make sense that is the one who is shown differently. The only issue I have with it at this point is if he spent 100-200 years in Neverland …and Neverland time makes it seem like even longer than that….why haven't they gotten together already? Has there been some poor mermaid just pining away for 200 years? Or have they just not run into each other because he avoids mermaids? He hasn't been there for too long when he's warning Bae about them but I feel like if we see him meet Ariel in the past, she'll have waited one heck of a long time to have him and it brings me back to one of my issues with SwanFire which makes it hard for me to defend for Hookriel. It's just so depressing but I could see unrequited love for sure. Unless they haven't interacted much or have a more complicated relationship, I'm just not sure how waiting around for hundreds of years for somebody who did something to push you away or ignored you is true love. This version of Ariel sounds like it's going to be a lot darker and have some interesting storylines to it, but I'm not sure how if they were both in Neverland it hasn't happened already – and if it has and they have a complicated past then that's been going on for a reallllly long time and if after 200 years it's still not working give up already.
I like the possibility and I see the potential (again with a little * just because we haven’t seen her cast yet, know the age, see them interact etc etc, though I do have a couple of concerns. The quote was certainly interesting though!
I agree about the not too many eligible bachelors in Neverland idea though. And his name very well could be Eric and he changed it to Killian – more piratey. It’ll be interesting to see where they go with it and where in the timeline it happens…

If you haven't already seen this sneak peek of Hook talking to Bae, he mentions mermaids…it's only one sentence, but it still made me flail to see him mention them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DJY4LfhIr4 I think the “curse of the mermaids” is the myth that they drag you to your death if they catch you in the water, which sets it up for them to show us Ariel saving someone instead in the future. The shipper in me wants to say that them showing that Hook in particular believes it is foreshadowing that he's the one who'll personally experience the opposite. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself with this stuff, but dang it's hard to not let my imagination run away from me!
I like this theory. The majority of the mermaids in Neverland could be evil as the Once Upon a Time version of Neverland seems like a darker place and let's remember that the mermaids tried to drown Wendy in the disney version. However, Ariel could be different from the other mermaids which could be one of the reasons why she wants to be human as she doesn't like living with the evil mermaids.

May 10, 2013 at 7:52 am #192744MysteryKat25ParticipantI’m watching the Disney version of Peter Pan for the first time in ages and I just thought I’d share / remind everyone that there IS a red-headed mermaid in Mermaid Lagoon. Ship away…

May 10, 2013 at 4:08 pm #192815kfchimeraParticipantEntertainment Weekly did an interview with A&E on that specific ride too–so they’ve been there and seen it 😉

My only other crack ship I’ve ever loved actually became canon — Lupin and Tonks in Harry Potter. I literally shrieked and cheered when I got to the hospital scene in Half-Blood Prince. Then I lorded it over nonbelievers for months afterward. 😆
I kind of wish that Hook and Ariel, if it would by chance ever happen, comes to be after the curse. The original story had Ariel never getting her prince. What if after she loses her love, instead of being turned into sea foam like in the original tale, she’s banished to this ghastly version of Neverland. Hook could know of her and she of him, but nothing ever came of it. Each broken by their loses. Just maybe Ariel never got sucked up by the curse since I assume there will be other beings in Neverland not taken to Storybrooke. So she could still be stuck in Neverland, forever doomed to her fate. I would love to encounter a smart-talking, sarcastic Ariel. It’s just twisted enough to work.
As for her casting, I really don’t think she’s going to be 16. Belle is nowhere near her teenage years and Aurora doesn’t seem 16 to me, although they are blurring the Sleeping Beauty lines with her mother. But I just don’t think they’ll make her a teenager when it would logically be better story wise to age her to her twenties. It allows her to have romantic pairings and be seen as an adult. There aren’t any other real teen characters on the show at the moment (Ashley is engaged/married with child so I don’t count her) so I can’t see them wasting storyline by making Ariel a teen.
Oh, and a word of advice…don’t tag your posts #fishhook on Tumble. It means something else that is definitely “NSFW”. I made the mistake and got a real shock. I’ve stopped using the phrase for them since them. 😮 😯

May 31, 2013 at 1:19 am #196701AtlanticaDreamParticipantya everywhere else seems to use Hookriel, Hookriel is my absolute favorite crack ship. I even started writing a fanfic about it (but its been put on the backburner since I started work and school). I’m hoping for a dark twist on the story, I definitely like the whole “curse of the mermaids” and Ariel being the only one who wants to save the humans. It reminds me of one of the episodes of the Little Mermaid tv series where there is a man sunk in a submarine that is leaking, and she is the only one who wants to save him, and eventually they all work together to send him back to the surface I also think that Hook pining over Milah is a reason why Hookriel could work so well, because unrequited love and obstacles are what makes a good story 😀 (with a happy ending at the end of course)
If you guys want I can change the title thread to avoid confusion, I just put FishHook as well since that’s what some people were using in the forums

May 31, 2013 at 1:31 am #196702RumplesGirlKeymasterI won’t lie. The more we talk about Ariel being on the show, the more I fall in love with the idea of Hookriel. It just makes a lot of sense in my cracked brain.

May 31, 2013 at 11:05 pm #196800sacrlcParticipantWhat if the mermaids are like the mermaids in the 4th Pirates of the Caribbean movie? They would lure men to the water and then kill them, similar to the sirens of the sea who lured the ships to the rocks. All the mermaids did this except one who was captured. Ariel?
Don't grow up. It's a trap.
