Truth be told, when they first said there’d be a 4th movie, I felt it wasn’t really necessary. But God help me I just can’t get enough of Captain Jack Sparrow, and I’ve always thought mermaids were awesome, so it sucked me in.
This will be my face if it turns out that against all odds, we guessed right, and Hookriel actually becomes canon…
Unless and until it’s dissproven on the show, I’m gonna go along my merry way indulging in it.[adrotate group="5"]July 18, 2013 at 11:14 pm #200705JosephineParticipantI swore I’d never watch another PotC movie after suffering in a freezing movie theater with the never ending third movie.
But I fully support Hookriel. I’ve mentioned before in this thread that my only other crackship, Lupin/Tonks in the HP fandom although they later died, became canon. I was over the moon and literally screamed out loud. There is just this smug feeling that comes over you when a ship that nobody ever expects to get together does and everyone you know told you that you were nuts for shipping them. Out of everyone they could put Hook with my number one pick is Ariel. I really do hope they don’t go the traditional route with perfect Prince Eric. I want to see a twisted, heartbreaking story when they finally have Ariel make an appearance. They dropped the ball on Aurora and Phillip (my favorite Disney couple as a child) so they better make it up with Ariel.
(I will say they’ve more than made up with how “Beauty and the Beast” turned out, even if I was kind of upset that Rumple was the beast before the episode aired…but that was only because I knew Belle wasn’t with Rumple in Storybrooke so they must not have had a happy ending…but their story turned out to have a fantastic twist).

July 22, 2013 at 9:34 am #201460PheeParticipantLook out, I’ve been pondering Hookriel again and need to get it outta my system. 😆
This time it’s something Eddy said at the CC Panel, which I don’t think is really spoilerish because it wasn’t a definitive answer and it’s about something in an ep that already aired, but basically, someone asked about Regina’s mermaid comment in Skin Deep and if we were gonna find out more about that, and Eddy did his sly little, “Just keep watching,” thing.
So, basically, I’m guessing that that means Ariel originated in FTL and was indeed Regina’s “mermaid problem”. So, several years before the Curse, Ariel’s trying to make a deal with Regina, and at that time Hook was in NL and had been for a few hundred years FTL time.
Earlier in this thread there was some discussion about Ariel and Regina having made a deal, and I posted how in Anderson’s version of The Little Mermaid it’s said that they can live for a few 100 years, so perhaps Ariel had met Killian in FTL a few 100 years ago, she’s never forgotten him, and now knowing that her few 100 years of life was almost up, she was desperate to find him again, hence the deal with Regina. Wasn’t really convinced of the idea when I first posted it, but now I’m wondering if it could possibly happen.
The issue I had with it was that they wouldn’t want to make Ariel look old enough to be 300 and about to die, so they’d have to come up with something about mermaids not physically ageing that much, and I wasn’t sure if I could buy that, but for the sake of this argument, let’s assume that’s the case.
So, new tweak to my Hookriel headcanon…
Still sticking with Killian having been of a noble bloodline of some sort, and something happening to threaten his family which resulted in his mother dying and his father running off with him and changing their names so they could go into hiding. Papa Jones took to the high seas, and Killian grew up on a ship, potentially not knowing anything about his true, noble identity..
One day, when he was about 16, the ship they were on was involved in an indicent with mermaids. Young Killian had been told stories of mermaids and how dangerous they were all his life, but this was his first enounter with them…
During said incident, Killian ends up thrown in the water and is saved by a 16 year old red haired mermaid, but before he comes to properly and sees her, she has to flee back to the water for fear of the other humans who have spotted them and think she’s gonna kill him. Once Killian is safe back on the ship, the crew tell him how he was almost killed by a mermaid, and then Killian will say something about mermaids being evil and dangerous. Ariel overhears this, (learning his name in the process), as she’s hanging out by the ship and eavesdropping to make sure the cute boy she saved is OK, and then heartbroken, she swims away…
Flashforward to the time of Skin Deep, and Ariel’s coming up on 300 years of age, doesn’t have much time left before she dies and becomes seafoam, and she never forgot that cute boy named Killian Jones. She never gave up her hobby of spying on humans, and one day she overhears some people talking about the legend of the pirate Captain Killian Jones, and how rumour has it, when he disappeared all those years ago, he’d gone to NL…
So Ariel is all, “WTFOMG IF HE WENT TO NL HE COULD STILL BE ALIVE AND I COULD SEE HIM AGAIN HOLY CRAP I NEED TO GET TO NL!” This prompts her to start annoying Regina, which prompts Regina to go to Rumple for help…
This would put Regina in the Ursula role, as she’s the witch who sent Ariel to be in the right place to be with her guy. (Am debating whether or not Tink could have been involved in the deal somehow, but we dunno yet if she’ll be able to flit between worlds or if she’s permanently in NL.) Of course, whatever deal gets struck ends up with Ariel losing her voice, (Regina was Rumple’s student, so if he knows how to take someone’s voice, chances are Regina does too, perhaps that’s what he’ll teach her to help with her mermaid problem, “Just take her tongue, Dearie, then you won’t have to listen to her any more.”) Without her voice, Ariel can’t tell Killian that she saved him back when they were 16 and that she’s loved him ever since and made this massive sacrifice to travel between worlds just to see him again. And because he has no idea about any of this, they won’t end up getting together…then he’ll leave NL…
But now he’s coming back, and Regina’s with him, and Ariel will see them both, and Emma will be there bonding with Hook, and drama shall ensue coz hell hath no fury like a mermaid scorned.
End rambling. That is all. Carry on. 🙂

July 23, 2013 at 7:08 am #201607PriceofMagicParticipantI like the idea of Ariel getting jealous. Also in the Disney version of Peter Pan, the mermaids were jealous of Wendy and told Peter that “We were only trying to drown her”. Ariel getting jealous over Emma and Hook and trying to “drown” Emma would be funny to see.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixJuly 23, 2013 at 7:46 am #201610PheeParticipantNow I’ve got this little scene playing out in my head where Ariel tries to drown Emma, and Hook’s there chuckling away, and Snowing are all, “OMG what are you doing to our daughter?!” and Ariel just gives them this little look that says, “Geez, I was only trying to drown her.” 😛
Still like the idea I had previously about Ariel and Emma ending up as gal pals, but it’d be fun if this was how their relationship started out. Then when the truth eventually comes out that Ariel’s been wanting to be with Killian for 300-odd years, Emma will be all, “Well no wonder you tried to drown me that time.”
Was lurking around tumblr just before and saw someone had posted about Colin’s comment from CC that, “With Hook it could be anyone’s daughter,” and this person had added, “Like, Triton’s daughter?” But we dunno exactly how much they’ve each been told about what’s happening this season, and in interviews the impression was that they don’t know much, so I doubt he was actually dropping a hint with that comment, but I still got a kick out of that tumblr post. 😉
July 23, 2013 at 9:37 am #201629kfchimeraParticipantLOL at the Triton’s daughter thing.
I definitely prefer if Ariel isn’t trying to drown Emma –but I guess there’s more drama that way. Krannen suggested in another thread maybe the reason Neal is on the beach is Ariel is in FTL (wasn’t taken by the curse I guess?) and she saved him, in a somewhat parallel to how she saved Prince Eric.
The Hookriel shipper in me says —NOOoo, she has to save Hook! But, it could work if she saves Neal, as so many of the mashup elements don’t play in quite the right order for the other stories. Pan doesn’t cut off Hook’s hand, or appear at Wendy’s window, so I guess Ariel could save Bae without that triggering her to fall in love with him. I wouldn’t want her to fall for him, then end up with Hook. Enough triangles and quadrangles already!

I’m just imagining a brief, non-serious drowning attempt. Like, they’re all standing around near the water’s edge, and Ariel witnesses Hook say something sweet and/or suggestive to Emma, so she accidentally on purpose trips, bumps into Emma, and pulls her into the water with her and tries to hold her under for a moment to send the message “Game on, Swan, back off my pirate,” while Emma’s fighting back and flailing, and Hook’s just looking and laughing because hot girls fighting in the water is hot, then Snowing freak out, and Hook’s all, “That’s enough, ladies,” and Ariel grudgingly lets Emma go while giving the, “Pfft, I was only trying to drown her,” eyeroll. 😛

Yeah, like I said in that other thread, Neal doesn’t look wet to me in that scene, so I think he just landed on the beach, as opposed to in the water.
July 23, 2013 at 10:29 am #201634RumplesGirlKeymasterPlus, if Neal washed up right next to Lake Nostos, why would Ariel be in the lake? It’s not big enough for her family and I can’t see A and E doing away with Ariel’s family altogether. And would they really put the mermaid in the with the Siren? Seem excessive.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"July 23, 2013 at 10:35 am #201636PheeParticipantDon’t think he landed at the Lake though. Safe Haven was in the background, so I think it was more like he was on a coastline next to the ocean?
