@TheWatcher, your post really intrigues me now. I think times goes differently in both worlds, which then would make sense, why we think Snow White was written century ago, but the ‘real’ (let’s call it that way) Snow White happened just decades ago in FTL. That’s when OUAT gets complicated and timeline doesn’t make sense so far, so I am hoping they’ll explain it at the end. I don’t fancy to get ‘Lost’ ending where so many questions won’t be answered. So, I am looking forward to read your theory @TheWatcher 🙂

I do hope they explain this at some point. I think it might be a final season sort of answer. Back in S1 when we still didn’t know who Dr. Whale was, I remember some people theorizing that he could be one of the Grimm brothers. We know he’s not now, but it might stand to reason that at some point the stories leaked over into our world (and back in the past…which is…complicated) and found their way to the original writers of the stories.
Where is gets REALLY complicated is when you bring in the really ancient stuff like King Midas and his golden touch which is ancient Greece yet his story is only a few years before the Curse hit (we don’t know how long he is cursed because we only see him the one time).
Mulan and Arthurian legend and even Robin Hood are all long before the stories of Snow White and Cinderella are recorded (though there is something to be said about oral tradition and these stories being passed down, I suppose). And yet Mulan and Lancelot and Robin are all together.
Suspension of disbelief allows me to accept that they are all together but I really wanna know how those stories got to our world at different times.
As for Henry’s storybook. I still think it was Peter Pan (with the help of a little Blue Fairy)

You have the dArlings’ london which appears to be in our world, because John and MIchael can come to Storybrooke from Neverland. HOwever, Alice’s Land is in a completely separate realm from our world with no discernable reason for this. A simpler thing would either to have Alice be from the  Darlings’ London, or to set it in modern time in our world. I think having a separate london for Alice is needless. I know I am posting this in a possibly inappropriate place, but it is something that really bothers me and I want your opinons on it.
Magic always comes with a price, so I pay with visa.
November 23, 2013 at 10:46 am #226025TheWatcherParticipant@once_dude I think the opposite, I think tthe darlings should have been from fictional London. I dont get why they are in “our world” when they are a story O.o that implies someone knew about what happened to them and wrote it. Like how in Hook, the grandmother was the real wendy and and the author of the books (or knee the author, I forget)
Dr. Whales land I can accept because its a black and white magical world. There could evil witches, vampires, swamp monsters and everything rpse from old horror tales inhabiting his world

You could even go further and do a sort of multiverse concept were there a multiple versions of the same character (Think DC comic books/ Infinite Crisis/ Silver Age Golden Age stick)  But then that just makes things more needlessly complicated…But your lucky I’m a person who likes complicated situations.

Someone recently said something similar in another thread, but connected it to the author tampering with the stories. Its entirely possible, also possible that what we are seeing are the Disney-fied versions and some where else are the “grimm” versions. The thought is incredibly creepy.
Anyway, I was reading through this thread, and I still firmly believe OUR land isn’t Emma’s land. It could be a land extremely close to ours just lik how Alice’s homeworld is similar but different somehow from Cruella’s.
I was also thinking…. Regina and Rumpel hav both said that this land is a land where there are no happy endings… What if….and this is kind of stupid and kind of crazy, but totally in the realms of fantasy but…. what is the Land Wihtout Magic is really a crap world where no one can be happy? Lets look at all the people who hail from LWM:
Greg/Owen: His papa was killed when he was kid.
Emma- Grew up alone, spent years in jail, and yes I know she was born in FTL but hush your face.
Tamara: something…about her grandmother(?)
Wendy- Kidnapped. For centuries was trapped in a cage. I hope they let her out for bathroom breaks.
Henry- Was apparently extremely unhappy with his life with Regina
So yeh, idk. It would seem in magical lands that heroes will get their happy endings. In this land it could be a crapsack world where no one gets their happy ending. Just a theory. I think the real world is crap but happy endings are possible….in the land without magic, they may not be.
I think that would be interesting to explorer personally. A land where all your endeavors will fail and you will just die unhappy, alone, in a crap way. As opposed to the splendor of the magical realms where all dreams can come true.

I think at this stage of the game, for the writers to turn around and say the land without magic is not our world is too much.

The pilot also said Regina was mad at Snow because Snow was prettier. a&E have retconned bigger things before, this if it were properly done, could be just a big plot twist.

Yup, I agree. I’m fine with there being a fictional Victorian or a 1920’s London stuck in time. Don’t need to add our world as another realm within itself or something.

Plus, I got the screencap here.

There’s plot twist and then there’s “we’re 100% out of ideas and therefore in order to keep the showing going we literally have to fundamentally change the properties of the show”
Our world not being a land without magic…would be the latter.
To compare, finding out that every single one of our characters was in an alien spaceship dreaming S1-5 while they tried to find a new home…would be the equivalent.
The writers have called our world ALWM before, not just in show.
