Okay, I posted this on the sneak peak thread, but I thought I’d post it here:
Speaking of “True North”, do you think it’s just a coincidence that the episode mentioned both Henry’s father and a compass and here we are in “Tallahassee” with Henry’s father appearing in some version and Emma looking for a magical compass? Or is it just me? I know that compass of Hansel and Gretel will come back somehow. It just has to, even if it is broken. Maybe it didn’t work because magic wasn’t in Storybrooke at the time if it is indeed magical.
Maybe I’m way off and will be shot down, but it’s just strange for a compass to come up twice. We know that it belonged to Hansel’s and Gretel’s father and the kids had it in Storybrooke as their only memento of him. And the father’s Storybrooke persona had no idea the twins existed. Kind of like how Henry’s dad doesn’t know he exists.
I just think “True North” isn’t the throw-away episode a lot of people thought at the time. We know the apple came back in some way, but I still think that compass is going to come back in some way.

November 2, 2012 at 2:17 pm #159134melliemdParticipantI don’t think that it’s THAT compass, since we aren’t flashing back in fairytale land to before H&G’s father had it. But perhaps the compasses have some relation to each other. Either way, I think it’s a nice catch!
November 2, 2012 at 2:49 pm #159138PheeParticipantJosephine, that’s a great catch about the recurring themes tying the eps together. Nicely spotted!
Agreed with Mellie that it can’t be that specific compass though. That compass is in SB right now, and Emma and Hook are going after their compass in FTL at the same place in the timeline, so the compass can’t be in both places at the same time.
I’m wondering if this compass will work in the way the one in Pirates of the Caribbean does, by pointing towards what your heart desires most. Maybe it’ll even actually be the PotC compass. It’d be a way they can give a nod to that story, which they’d never be able to actually re-tell in the context of Once.

The compass in “True North” started to point North when their dad showed up at the end, so I could see, if there is another one in the Enchanted Forest, it pointing to your heart’s desire when you hold it.

Am i the only one who thinks this might be a giant (no pun intended) shout-out to Pirates of the Caribbean? Having an actual pirate on the trip, looking for it up JACK’s beanstalk?
November 2, 2012 at 5:28 pm #159154JosephineParticipantI just got an idea! Wasn’t MM supposed to be able to find a way to communicate to David between worlds in an upcoming episode? What if it’s somehow connected through the compasses. Emma’s going after one in the Enchanted Forest, one exists in Storybrooke. That can’t be a coincidence. If it’s not the same compass then maybe they’re “brothers”. Connected in some way. Sort of how in HP the way Harry communicates with the mirrors.
My new cold medicine is making me theory obsessed today. Or it’s just made me loopy. 😆

Yeah, that’s why I’m half expecting that when we see this compass, it’ll look exactly like Captain Jack Sparrow’s, (no reason they couldn’t use the same design, coz it’s all owned by Disney). This whole chunk of the storyline is feeling like a PotC shoutout.

I agree.

That would be a neat little tie-in.

I would love to see something like that! It’d make True North feel a lot less plunked.
November 3, 2012 at 2:20 pm #159224hjbauParticipantTrue North is about the apple. And it is so an Emma episode. First time we know Emma wants Henry. Epic episode.
