Keymaster10×2 “Smile”
–A fine episode. Nothing wrong with a good old fashioned space romp with robots.
–The emoji thing was clever.
–I really like Bill
–The Doctor had some good funny lines which I always enjoy
–Soooo why can’t the Doctor travel? Or rather, why did he make an oath to abstain?
–Elephant on the Themes. Whoops?
Probably give this a 7.5/10

ParticipantAnother good episode. I am really enjoying this year’s Doctor Who which goes to show that a good companion can make all the difference. I never liked Clara but I liked Bill by the end of her very first episode.
Capaldi finally works as the Doctor so it’s going to be kind of sad to see him go at the end of this year. Again, the right companion can make all the difference. Capaldi never worked with Clara because too much attention was given to Clara whereas with Bill the partnership works beautifully. Too bad we couldn’t have just skipped Clara and had Bill instead from the start of Capaldi’s run.
Clara was the worst thing to happen to Doctor Who. If she hadn’t left, I would not have been watching this year. Clara almost killed the show for me.
All magic comes with a price!

ParticipantI was disappointed Bill ended up being from the present, after all, but I still love her. I’m just sick of contemporary companions.
After seeing “Smile”, I think Bill’s planet is a far-future copy of Earth.
What do you think is behind the door?
The colony ship Mary Celeste, sister vessel to the Erehwon.
(Though if the vault is hiding the Doctor’s missing memories, that’d also be cool.)

ParticipantCaptain Jack Harkness, and one of the characters from Class. Not really important, it is just a little of a curiosity to me.
I think they are considering Jack to be pansexual instead of bisexual. And with Class, maybe they just meant within the actual Doctor Who show, not the entire canon? I do agree they are rather limiting the definition of gay here, though.
I think they mean “first homosexual regular television companion.” Jack Harkness is pan. Mike Yates and Ace McShane are bi (via Word of God and EU materials). And Oliver Harper is a Big Finish character (companion of the First Doctor).

Interesting why is that?

ParticipantInteresting why is that?
Mainly, it’s because of how that “Mary Celeste” sign in the vault in episode 1 resembles the Erehwon vault in episode 2; they seem like they might be the same kind of thing. That, and the Doctor seems to be trying too hard to act normal about the MC vault, just like he did during the ganger-Amy plot.
Taking speculation a bit more into left field — and this is silly, I know — the trailer for this season shows old old-style cybermen, from the planet Mondas, which in the old series looks like Earth (though with the land and water reversed). Maybe this season is about finding the first cyber-tomb, to destroy it or — more likely, because of fixed points in time and how important they are to the Doctor wearing this face — to reluctantly ensure that it opens..

ParticipantWell I clearly having been missing out on a ton of Who-fun here…..
“Mary Celeste” sign in the vault in episode 1
Wasn’t the Mary Celeste the ship in Curse of the Black Spot? And I’m pretty sure there was an episode about it in Classic Who as well. So.. could it be a med bay, similar to what the Siren had Rory in?

Yeah, my understanding is the first FULL time tv companion who is gay.. And Jack wasn’t considered full time or some such rubbish… I took it as a marketing ploy, similar to the extremely overblown controversy over the Beauty and the Beast exclusive gay scene.
