Next week’s episode looks soooooooo good!
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 16, 2017 at 9:35 am #338743Ranisha PittsParticipantSoo I am loving this season of Doctor Who. I really love it. It is bringing more a star trek vibe where it deals with social ethical and moral issues, ideas, and themes in colorful clever way.
Thin ice was amazing about value and privilege. Love the interaction between the Doctor and Bill. Bill reaction to losing the child before her eyes was poignant, because I would be the same way. Save Him will be my desperate plea.
I must say Knock Knock wasn’t a knock out of the park (my brain sees a pun even when I don’t see it). However, it’s interesting it took a more what family would do for one another, and what does it mean to survive and what does it mean to live. The mother she was surviving but she was not living. It kind of brings to forefront of end of life issues, where our needs of wanting our love ones to survive even though they are not truly living. My family and I experience this with my aunt who I lost about two weeks ago. Other issues parent child relationship where children become caregiver to their caregivers and all the complexity of it.
One cool thing in Knock Knock was I was mental commenting that Bill the student of the Doctor, almost seems like she is drifting into student/daughter. There seems to be a teacher/paternal connection that I see with the doctor and Bill. I mean Bill probably doesn’t have much of a father figure in her life. So, watching the Doctor helping her move, her doing that daughter like thing ok you can go now, I am trying to look cool in front my friends. The Doctor keeping a watchful eye. And Bill calling him grandfather much to the Doctor’s dismay, “at least say father.” The dynamic is teacher student yet there is a paternal aspect as well. I know want to watch the pilot season of Doctor Who to see how the Doctor was with his first companion, his granddaughter, Susan.
Interesting the Doctor has both Susan and River on his desk. His granddaughter, his wife, his Tardis, three special women in his long-lasting life.
Now I’m not saying Bill is the doctor daughter. I believe she is just a normal human girl. However, I do wonder if the Doctor will have some connection to Bill’s Mom, heck maybe 13 will have some brief connection to Bill’s mom. Nothing Deep like the whole amy river rory thing. Just simple as he helped her out in standalone episode.
<p style=”margin: 0in 0in 8pt;”> Now to Oxygen. Capitalism at its finest when the very air you breathe is cost. It was sickening and depressing concept to see humans get that bad in their sense of greed. Where they even sucked out the air out of the building to make people buy their air. Its Gross and disgusting.</p>
However, what touch me was the Doctor Losing his vision. I was like wow. And now he doesn’t want Bill to know or to blame herself or feels she has to take care of him.Other notable things regeneration. I don’t want to lose Capaldi I love him.
Who is in the vault not sure, I was going with the master. But I only think that because what I heard in articles. LOL

Sadly, the Ford Pinto scandal shows that that kind of bottom-line reasoning isn’t fiction.

It is so much fun watching the first Doctor. He’s so crotchety. I quite enjoy watching previous Doctors and seeing what qualities have changed, what has always stayed the same…

Agreed. 12 has a bit of 1 in him, like 11 had a bit of 2.

Hmmmmm
I dunno, you guys. Was this episode good? It’s hard to say. This is Moffat checking mark several things off the “quintessential Moffat” list. Multiple narratives and time frames, big themes, existential crisis. It’s better than other attempts because there’s a seasonal point instead of being a one-off but I’ve been enjoying the stripped back version of Doctor Who this season. We still have themes and ideas but they are more tangible (racism, privilege) instead of questioning the entire nature of reality. But honestly? I was little bit bored.
6/10?
–Oh hey Missy’s in the Vault and the Doctor promised to watch over her for 1000 years. If she can’t leave the Vault then why can’t the Doctor leave?
–The aliens are coming! Cool. I guess that’s the story for the rest of the season.
–Bill’s face when the Pope entered her kitchen after she comforted her very skittish date was hilarious.
–“You’re an idiot.” “Everyone knows that.”
–I know the aliens are monitoring everything but their attention to detail is almost a bit too much. Like it was Simulation Nardole that spoke truths to a Simulation Doctor about why the latter won’t tell Simulation Bill about the blindness. Remarkable given that Nardole is a robot?
–“Are you trying to get rid of us?” “What make you say that?” “Cause you’re sending us into the dark after a man with a gun.”
–Soooo basically….this is an episode about the Doctor watching an episode of Doctor Who.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 22, 2017 at 10:02 am #339187Ranisha PittsParticipantTo be honest it had good solid points but it was slow moving as well. I think I went expecting oh missy is back we got the pope oh this is going to Be AMAZING and it wasn’t that amazing.
Now while I do love the idea of there is a mysterious letter that all who read it commits suicide. However, I am not sold on its execution ( like I said my brain can find a pun without out me knowing it). The going back and forth to the past and back to the library. And then into the projection room. It just well its was just muddle and way to much stuff happening. And I was like is this what they are saying about Moffat. I get it now. I rather the Missy execution be her own episode and that Veritas be its own episode as well. Missy and Veritas just did not blend well for me.
I love all your points @RumplesGirl so I no need to repeat those but one I loved was when the doctor told Bill that the girl was not out of her league.
Also its high time the Doctor tell Bill about his eyesight. Because its going to cause more trouble then ever
I am also curious how Missy will react to the new girl and how Bill will react to her.
And such a shame Missy and River never cross paths. At least what we know of.
Another note I was wrong it wasn’t who I thought it was and yet it was who I thought it was? TimeLords heh?

–Eh? It’s basically on par with last week’s episode for me.
–The ending made the episode a bit better than it had been up until then. I thought it dragged in certain spots though it wasn’t anything horrible.
–I don’t really understand the Monks motivation. They want to take over Earth because….? It’s not for our natural resources or the people. They just seem to want to do it.
—The Sonic Glasses are truly silly writing if they can detect biological functions and “see” everything but an old fashioned combination lock.
–Poor Bill. Did she make the wrong choice?
–Anyone else getting Martha vibes off Bill’s story right now?
–Next week does look really interesting:

From the season trailer, we know those Cybermen will make an appearance.
I wonder if the monks are Cybermen without their suits.
