Most of my thoughts are in my review, however a down and dirty quick likes/dislikes
LIKES
–Missy. I was hesitant about her returning but her chemistry and comedic timing with both Peter and Jenna are fantastic. She’s so…delightfully bananas.
–The Davros reveal. I love that the show is bringing back the classic villains and looking at the relationship between the Doctor and his two arch enemies with fresh eyes. Davies gave us the idea that the Doctor and the Master were friends and had a sort of affection/understanding with one another but Moffat begs the question of how villains and heroes create one another.
–The Doctor playing the guitar. Classic campy and pulpy Who.
–Clara was actually pretty great. She can hold her own without becoming the focal point, something she was far too much last season.
–The space station being Skaro. “That’s no moon!”
–All the call backs to both classical era (Genesis of the Daleks, man. THAT series is some good Who, yo) and the pre-Moff era (Jadoon, The Shadow Proclamation, Ood)
–All the jokes. Very spot on.
DISLIKES
–Not a lot, to be honest. I still really want to know how Missy is back for the second time, since we never learned how she came back last season either.
–The “killing” of Missy and Clara seems cheap since there is no way that they are going to die for good. Same with the Doctor; it’s not really suspenseful since we know that there is no regen going to happen anytime soon.
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"September 21, 2015 at 2:09 pm #308282PriceofMagicParticipantI definitely preferred this episode over last season’s Clara fest and the news that Clara is finally leaving for good means I will continue to watch Doctor Who and not give up on it.
I still don’t like Clara, she’s too know-it-all for my liking over actual professionals who seem to just sit back so that Clara can figure everything out and tell them what to do. I wish they’d have Clara give up teaching, this is probably one of the things that annoy me the most about her, because it is so ridiculously unrealistic that she can just take off anytime she wants. You can’t just walk out on a class of students, you can’t just get someone else to cover you at the drop of the hat. Where did Clara actually find the time to train as a teacher when she’s jetting off on all these adventures with the doctor? How did she even get the job in the first place when her attendance is all over the place? Why has she not been fired when she just walks out of classes because she has something better to do. To put it bluntly, Clara is a crap teacher and would actually be having a detrimental effect on her students’ education. Why does everyone treat Clara as though the sun shines out of her backside? If Clara was a character in fan-fiction, she would undeniably be a Mary-Sue.
When it comes to Clara, I’m rooting for the monsters of the week.

Keeper of FelixSeptember 21, 2015 at 2:17 pm #308284RumplesGirlKeymasterI don’t mind Clara having all the answer. That’s one of the perks of traveling with the Doctor; you get really good at knowing what’s what and figuring out the Monster of the Week’s plan of action and being able to see things that the non-traveler cannot. That’s not actually uncommon to Doctor Who. Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy…they’ve all been clued in moreso than “professionals” or any one else around them. What bothers me (and I suspect others) is that with Clara last year they coupled that know-how with her being at the center of every story instead of the Doctor. It felt like the Clara Oswald show instead of Doctor Who
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"September 21, 2015 at 5:33 pm #308296darkones1fanParticipantDavros was in it 10/10 😛
Ok in all serious though this was pretty much a solid episode for me!  And for pretty much  agree with most the reasons RG stated but I want to add one little addition.
The Daleks: Lets face it folks the Moffat era the Daleks haven’t gotten much love, they’ve kind of…become a joke…oh sure they appear but they don’t do much. But here…especially with the retune of Davros Creator of the Daleks Dark Lord of Skaro (Gosh I love that) the Daleks are finally shown as threatening again
And why I can see that the Daleks killing of Missy and Clara could come off as cheap, I think it was a necessary to show how far the Daleks will go and show their unpredictability. They could have used Missy to control the TARDIS and have the power of space and time…instead they just good old fashion Ex-Ter-Min-Ate! her. While predicable in they’re return, I think it’s powerful symbolism that shows how far Daleks are willing to go.
So yeah…I love this premier hopefully part 2 doesn’t mess it up, but hey it will have Davros so I will love it anyway.
September 26, 2015 at 11:50 pm #308485RumplesGirlKeymasterMore in depth thoughts later, but while I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I did week one, it was still very good. Easily a 8.5 or 8.75. Highlight was the conversation between Davros and Doctor. However, let’s never revisit Dalek poo

LIKES
–The conversation between Davros and the Doctor. While Davros may have been playing the Doctor in the end, I think there was some genuine feelings there.
–Lots of funny one-liners. “We, on the other hand, have a pointy stick…” is one of my favorites.
–Loads of Classic references.
–They explained how Missy got away from the Graveyard back in S8 (but have yet to explain how she came back in the first place…)
–Clara didn’t save the day or do anything really either than be a Dalek.
DISLIKES
–Poo-Daleks are not a thing we needed or ever need again
–Missy running off. We know this isn’t the last of her. Moffat clearly has too much fun writing her so let’s just keep her around and stop doing the “surprise! Missy is back!”
–Seeing the Doctor in Davro’s chair was fun, but I wish that bit had ended sooner so we could get to the interesting conversation between the two.
–Please tell me the Sonic isn’t gone for good. That’s a staple on the show, right there with the TARDIS herself.

Actually, that the Master and the Doctor used to be friends has been established since they introduced the character. I think even in “Terror of the Autons.”

The’ve gotten rid of the screwdriver before, during Davison’s era. It will be back.
September 27, 2015 at 12:46 pm #308491PriceofMagicParticipantI found it funny how Missy poked Davros in the eye- She is definitely one of the highlights of the show as it currently is.
Also enjoyed the line about the Doctor having the honour of sitting in the only other chair on Skaro and it being a normal chair that just seems to be hanging around.
I disliked them getting rid of the screwdriver. The screwdriver is as much a part of Doctor Who as the Tardis. If the old stuff works, don’t get rid of it just for the sake of being “new” and “modern”.
I still dislike Clara, I’m glad she’s leaving. She’s not a good companion IMO, there’s no chemistry there. I think part of the problem is last season they made her the centre of everything and she took over the show without having the likability to carry it. I’m glad she was the one who had to be saved rather than doing the saving, it’s about time she got off her high horse.

This I know. But still…it’s not something that should be done.
(and Davison’s era wasn’t exactly…stellar. Apart, really, from his final episode)

(please don’t let this be an episode where Clara does all the things while the Doctor just hangs out somewhere)
