Those ghost things remind me of the gentleman out of Buffy.

This isn’t really anything new. Basically it’s the Sarah Jane adventures but without Sarah Jane because Elizabeth Sladen is sadly dead.

Basically. And totally unnecessary. There are spin offs they could do that would be far more interesting like the Paternoster Gang. Or heck, bring back Torchwood. (Yes yes yes. Barrowman is Arrow-ing it up but he could totes do a 3 episode arc during the summer)

Big Finish is handling Torchwood, at the moment.

But, yes. We need a Vastra spinoff. Why not have both Class and Vastra? RTD had two spinoffs in his era (albeit ones aimed at wildly different audiences).

I’ll have more proper thoughts in a bit, but overall this episode didn’t do a whole lot for me. Not as strong as the premiere or episode two, but nothing offensive. It’s absolutely in the Doctor Who wheelhouse of typical storytelling. I just question if I should be getting “the usual” still.

Anyway, thoughts later but right now, it’s getting about a 7.0/10.

I decided to stop watching Doctor Who after episode 2 this season. I still want to like it, but all of time and space has been reduced to a small universe of recurring characters, catchphrases, goofy antics and arm-waving.

I’ve been a firm believer for awhile now that DW needs fresh blood; in other words, it’s time for Moffat to bow out and hand it off to someone else. He’s becoming…I don’t want to say a one trick pony but…that might be the best phrase right now. He likes his blockbuster style of storytelling but it’s losing a lot of heart and fascination and it’s relying on (like you said) a lot of goofy, fast talking, antics that, when you get past the flash, is really the same rote story over and over. He did quite well in S5 and S6. S7 the wheels began to shake a bit. There was close to *nothing* remarkable in S8 (in spite of getting a new Doctor) and while I enjoyed 901, it was not without problems or Moffat’s trademark “faster than the speed of light” style.
