I accidentally missed some of this episode so I’ll have to watch it on catch-up. However I thought it was a decent episode and I enjoyed the lack of Clara.
My main criticism of the episode comes in the Clara scene where Clara is showing the Doctor a selfie of herself and one of her students. First off, Clara should NOT be taking pictures of her students on her phone, that is a big no-no for anyone working with children. Secondly, Clara should not be then showing said photo to anyone in her social circle without parental permission, though as I said above, she shouldn’t even have that photo on her phone. Clara is very unprofessional in her position as teacher to the point that she would’ve been fired 12 times over for what she does. She is a safeguarding risk to the children in her care. Clara has a duty of care towards her students and she is failing miserably. This in turn reflects badly on the school she works for as they are continuing to allow her to work there.

Yeah that’s a pretty big no no. But the writers had to find a way to show that Ashildr was still there, watching over those the Doctor encounters. There were a million other ways to do it, however, without the eyebrow raising action of a teacher who should know better.

I agree the aliens were unimportant although I did find the fire Lion appreacance to be very appealing but his whole I am just here to invade the world thing lackluster. It would have been more poignant if he was using the lives of this world in desperate attempt to bring his pride back to life. Because a lion needs its pride. However it wasn’t bout the Loin. It was about “Me” (hahha that was fun) aka Ashildr. Ashildr realize despite all she still cared about the people.
I never watched Game of Thrones but this Maisie is phenomenal actress I cared about Ashlidr and I would love to see her again.
That flashback with her babies struck me because I didn’t think she would have children. And then to lost them how tragic. She lived the ultimate heartache and lost, to outlive your children is one of the worse fate. It showed the audience why she became “Me.” Me against the world.
Also I love that they gave the chip to someone unplanned and unexpected.(Although I had flicker of a notion that he might be the one.)
The jokes at the hanging was just priceless. Overall this episode was solid and probably be one of my faves! LOVED IT.

When the lion first appeared, and with Maisie in the dress, my first thought was that they were going for a beauty and the beast vibe. It was kind of disappointing when that didn’t turn out to be the case.

OH yes I forgot in the 80s tv version of the beauty and the beast, the beast had a lion appearance. I also recalled a few fairy tale illustration gave the beast a lion appearance. That would have been an interested nod to the tell.

November 1, 2015 at 10:00 am #311425RumplesGirlKeymasterThis episode wasn’t bad but it wasn’t my favorite either. It was a passable (and slightly heavy handed) political allegory about humans inability to see “aliens” complexly and how we tend to lump factions of people together to represent the whole. Science fiction never shies away from hot button issues, and in fact we could argue that science fiction is largely always aware of and makes use of those issues but, while well done, it’s not exactly my cup of tea. Also, there is a definite lack of narrative tension since I know that the Doctor’s plane is not going to explode (and even if it does, the Doctor will save everyone), that Clara will be rescued, and the day will be saved. So it was a perfectly fine episode but it’s not one that strikes me as memorable.
LIKED
–The Doctor wears question mark underpants
–Jenna did a really nice job playing cold and calculating once she was revealed to be a Zygon
–It’s always nice to see Kate Stewart
–Harry Sullivan reference!!
DISLIKED
–This episode wasn’t as snappy as the past few weeks have been.
–I don’t know why the writers are so fascinated with Osgood. Yes, she represents the fandom and she’s quirky but I don’t necessarily find her all that compelling.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 1, 2015 at 6:00 pm #311434Ranisha PittsParticipantThis episode for me started nice and eventually I got bored. It was suppose to be suspenseful but lack suspense. I did like the Zygon twist with Clara.
LIKE:
Two Osgoods introduction. That first five minutes was suspenseful and fun and very nice set up.
Question mark underpants cute
the idea of Truth or Consequence. The Zygons are basically are saying we are tired of either passing, cultural assimilation, or being in the closet. We want to be free to be who we are not hide in the dark. The concept and idea was interesting enough.
Dislike:
Truth or Consequence the fact that they didn’t show more from the emotional side of Zygons. They dragged the secrecy far to long with the Zygons. I rather have seen more of the inter workings of the Zygon factions and hear things from their pov.
LOATHE:
the stupidity of the soldiers. It made no sense. I get one soldier wanting to give in but the entire squad. COME On they are soldiers who know what the enemy was capable of.

Plus, River is returning for Christmas…

I’m a little out of touch with the current season, but speculation is still fun. I’ve wondered about the Doctor’s “half-human” comment. Things we’ve seen on the show:
* Humans can become Time Lords.
* Humans can become Daleks.
* Sometime in the next 3000 years, humans invent or acquire time-travel technology.
So, I’m thinking human colonization of the distant past, followed by a lot of evolution and/or genetic engineering or whatever to really stretch the definition of “human”. Maybe Gallifrey and Skaro are even the same planet in incompatible timelines. That would fit nicely with the recurring Dalek quote of “Doc-tor, you are a good Da-lek”.
