I don’t know why Roni is assuming the photo means she was a mother…. (She said something like “I’ve never had a kid” IIRC). Especially when you consider her previous jobs, mayor, royalty, actress 😉 , mean she could have taken lots of photos with unrelated people 🙂 All the photo proves, if authentic, that they had met before.
But following Roni’s line of thought I thought of a silly/amusing direction they could take on the show. Even if both Roni and Henry are still incredulous over the photo I could see Roni reading Henry’s book.
If Roni is assuming she is Henry’s mother (or at least some important female in his life) who is she likely to assume she is? The only real choices are his mothers or grandmothers (including step-grandmoms).
Now, people tend to see themselves if not the *heroes* of their own stories, than as the centre of their own stories. Hard to avoid due to biology.
I am assuming that Roni would imagine herself as Emma, Henry’s biological mother. Not because she thinks a biological connection is more important, but because she may not imagine herself as an evil Queen capable of killing peasants anymore. And Emma had some rough edges, I could see Roni having trouble imagining herself Snow or Belle for that reason.
If/once you make that leap, what is the next one? Easy, obvious. There is a one-handed man in Henry’s book, and a one-handed man in Hyperion Heights.
Even if Roni doesn’t quickly make an assumption about whether she is Emma/Regina/Snow/Belle, making an assumption Rogers=Hook is easy. And then, since the story ends around the wedding, another assumption could be that Hook would not readily separate from Emma… So Roni might then make the assumption/leap then that if Hook is here, and if she is Henry’s mom, that she is Emma.
That could be amusing and make for some funny hijinks and misunderstandings 😉 Of course the show could pull a trick on us and *actually* have Regina and Wish Hook together…. It would appear they have spent about 10 years in each others company helping Henry, and this show is all about true love… blah. I hope if they give one/both of them partners that they end up being with other people, for many reasons, but one of those reasons would be how much more awkward introductions to the family, as well as family holidays, would be 😉
“These are my moms Regina and Emma, and my stepdads, Killian and Killian. Yeah, my step dads are … (siblings, twins, clones, dopplegangers, alternates?)… with the same name. Oh, and one(/both?) used to be my grandmother(‘s’) lover(s). Oh no, not *Snow’s*, my paternal grandmother. My step-dad was my dad’s quasi step-dad. My paternal grandmother? Oh, well the paternal grandmother I’ve reference, she’s dead, so that helps reduce the awkwardness right?”

This is another thing I’m not understanding. Henry both wrote and illustrated his book, as he told Rogers when he asked about Emma’s picture. Plus we know there is the Last Supper picture at the end that shows Regina and Hook in it. How does Henry look at Roni and Rogers and not think to himself that they look just like characters he supposedly made up?

Like you said, Henry himself has a blind spot if there are any (as their should be) illustrations of Regina or Hook or Rumble.
Henry had a book in season 1, but didn’t know for sure who a lot of people’s Enchanted Forest personas were.
Another reason I’d like to see that kind of plot happen is I’d love to see a character scene after Regina comes to realize the truth, and has a sad moment realizing she was the antagonist (and worse), but Henry cheers/comforts her, validates her growth and her important role as his mother and now a good person/hero, and not as lesser than Emma.

I would be in favor of Wish Hook and Regina ending up together. There was a line in 7×3 when Cinderella meets Regina and Hook. Henry introduced Regina as his mother while Cinderella incorrectly assumes Wish Hook is Henry’s dad, to which Wish Hook said “not quite.” While Hook 1.0 is technically Henry’s step-dad via Emma now, it would be highly amusing if Wish Hook became Henry’s other step-dad via Regina. I think it makes for so many awkward but entertaining situations for the show to have the very lonely Roni and Rogers fall for each other.

I never thought they’d be dumb enough to let Emma and Hook seriously fall for each other either…. I think the writers are being more careful with Wish Hook though. Rather than coming across as a womanizing creep, he is being written as a concerned father in the flashbacks and as a good cop as Officer Rogers in the present. The writers probably want to make him more likable and less icky than they did Hook 1.0 in season two. If they continue to spin Wish Hook as a loving dad in season seven, then I could see him having a lot in common with Regina who is projecting a big Mama Bear vibe now.
