Is it possible Rumps left that key for Mary Margaret when he was in that cell before? No clue as to why though, but hey Rumpel is always the man with a plan.
My other theory is that it’s Regina who is using it to frame Mary Margaret more. I mean it doesn’t look very good if the murder suspect takes off even though the sheriff is doing everything in her power to prove you innocence.
Any thoughts?
[adrotate group="5"]March 19, 2012 at 4:13 pm #139189weedithParticipantMy first thought when she found something was that Gold had left it there since he was the last one in the cell (as far as we know). But since they made a big deal about the keyring with keys to every lock in Storybrooke, that points to the key being off of Regina’s keyring. But remember, the last person we saw with that keyring was Henry, and we know he wants to help MM, and we know he spends time at the sheriff’s station.
So my list of suspects is Regina, Henry, and Gold, with Henry now my leading candidate.

But, heck, it could be someone totally unexpected who put it there. I think we can rule out Emma. Emma really wants to uphold the law, so I don’t see her wanting to do anything to harm Mary-Margaret’s case. Could August be a possibility? He seems to know all. How he would have sneaked into the station to do that, I don’t know. But Gold and Regina are probably the most likely. The Henry theory’s a great one too.
March 19, 2012 at 6:19 pm #139193killianhookfanParticipantPassing along my 10 year old son’s theory here . . . last night he said that he thinks the key was actually hidden underneath the mattress in the cell and that it fell out when MM was making up the bed so it could have been there for quite awhile. I would have to go back and look but we were both wondering, was that the same key to the cell that Snow and Grumpy were locked in inside James’ castle in FTL??
March 19, 2012 at 6:35 pm #139199hjbauParticipantI think that Regina put it there at some point. We know that she was in the Sheriff’s office when Mary was in that room with Emma so i think she could have put it in there at some point.
March 19, 2012 at 7:16 pm #139218Daniel J. LewisKeymasterI was thinking Regina, too. But now, I’m thinking that Henry is a great suspect, too.
March 19, 2012 at 8:27 pm #139225miaParticipantI just watched the episode again and I think your son is right rumplegoldfan. Snow had just slept and is now making the bed. She then lifts the matress to do so and the key falls down. That makes me think it’s been there for some time and Regina put it there.

What if the person who put the key there was the Hatter? Next week’s preview makes it seem as if he’s a bit crazy and has maybe been planning to kidnap Mary Margaret & Emma. I would think Mary Margaret would try and do the right thing by not escaping, therefore causing no further suspicion. The Hatter could have put the key there and has been waiting for the right person to take the bait.
I know, it’s weird. Just a thought! 🙂

March 20, 2012 at 9:38 am #139271SlurpeezParticipant@ all_aglow: I like the idea that it was the Mad Hatter who put the key there. He seems crazy and cunning enough to do it. Perhaps he planted the key in the cell, waited for MM to exit, abducted MM outside the sheriff station, and is waiting for Emma to come searching so he can kidnap her, too. Only someone as crazy as the Mad Hatter would be daring enough to abduct law enforcement.

March 20, 2012 at 1:33 pm #139283killianhookfanParticipantI love the Mad Hatter idea because the thing that bothered me about MM breaking out of jail with the key was – where was she going to go??? It’s not like she can leave town. Everyone knows who she is and everyone knows she’s the murder suspect. There are only so many places she can hide and I’m guessing that Regina would hire other people to look for her because she would say that Emma didn’t do her job if MM broke out of jail. But if the Mad Hatter left the key and kidnapped Emma then things look very different.
