This is a thread to discuss queer ships on Once Upon a Time (OUaT), no matter if canon or non-canon, characters already on the show, coming to the show or not on the show (but maybe wished for).
We work with the basic assumption, that any character could be queer, regardless what has so far been shown on the show or is known from books or movies.
It doesn’t matter in this thread if a character has been shown so far only having interest or in relationship with the other gender than their own. We have discussed that in other places. Any objections or remarks like, that female character A can’t be interested in the female character B because has only been with men, and other objections against a character being discussed in this thread for being a part in a queer relationship are seen as not productive contributions in this thread. Keep your discussion to who with who and why you think those two could make a good couple. If you can’t do that, then leave this thread. This is to give a space for an open discussion about possibilities, which might or might never come to be on the show, and not to discuss if a character could be queer or not at all.
If you don’t accept, that people will ship eventually whatever characters in a queer ship here and can freely talk about that, if you have a problem with the basic assumption: please stay out of the discussion here.
This is a shipping thread! If you can’t let us ship who we want to ship in here, then go and have a party with merpeople or whoever else, but stay out of here.
Besides that of course the usual rules are in place as well, play nice with each other.

September 12, 2014 at 2:50 pm #282126RumplesGirlKeymasterFirst, added this to our helpful links thread in case it ever gets lost in the shuffle.
Second, I have two pairs that I’ve really liked the idea of for quite some time.
1) Mulan and a gender-swapped Shang. Both warriors, both struggling to find themselves and prove themselves worthy. After Mulan’s unrequited love for Aurora, I’d like to see Mulan find someone.
2) Hercules and Phil, who is fully human in my head. I think it’s be fun to break the effeminate, sweet, sweater wearing cliche gay guy depiction and instead present the ultimate “man’s man” as literally just that.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"September 12, 2014 at 4:58 pm #282145PriceofMagicParticipant@Myril, I reread some of your early posts in the other thread and would like to change my stance on Ruby. I agree with you that she could easily be part of a queer ship.
A pair I think would be interesting to see is Tinkerbell and Mulan. Both spent considerable time in a male dominated environment (Mulan in the army and Tinkerbell in Neverland), both were friends with someone close to Rumple (Mulan with Belle and Tinkerbell with Baelfire), both have helped Snow and Emma, both have had run ins with a Mills woman, (Mulan with Cora and Tink with Regina)
Ruby and Mulan would be interesting. They both know Belle, both haven’t talked to her since season 2, both know Snow and Emma. Ruby’s quite outgoing whilst Mulan is quite serious. They both have confidence, both can be stubborn.
Archie and Roger from 101 Dalmations could work especially if Roger had Perdita since Archie has Pongo.
If they brought in Jasmine, they could gender flip Aladdin. That could be a surprising twist.
They could have Granny turn out to be queer or bi. The older characters need romance too!
I think Mulan is most like going to be the character through which this topic is explored. She has links to three of the main characters (Belle, Emma, Snow) plus Robin and he’s linked to Regina. She’s already an established character on the show so they don’t have to use up valuable screentime introducing a brand new character.

Keeper of FelixSeptember 12, 2014 at 5:14 pm #282147TheWatcherParticipantI say Hercules and Archie would just be the cutest thing, ever. So then where is Megara gonna get her smoothies? Why, with Emma Swan of course. That’s right folks. #MegaSwan is the newest ship.
Both of the two are strong, independent, and the snark is strong with both of them. They would great together.

Some interesting couples named.
Agree that Mulan most likely will be the one they might explore in a queer ship if any time soon, she is after all already introduced as queer character.
Gender swapped Shang is an obvious thing, and I faintly even remember something in the myth about a female character, not Shang but another, but just looking at the movie we know they fall for each other after a bumpy start. Thinking of a Xena story arc I can see another version, the “true” Shang as general of an army being only a decoy by now, mortally wounded by a poisoned arrow and nearly dead, but one of his concubines, or let it be his only daughter took over to lead the army in his name.
other possibilities with Mulan:
Red – they share a strong sense of loyalty, of defining family not through blood but at least as much by friendship, their different nature, one more extravert the other intro is for writing a nice ground for little comedy, while at the same time it means that they might be able to give the other something to grow.
Tinkerbell – aside that we are left to wonder if by now the Fairies are overthinking their strict rule and view, no love/romance for fairies, and Tinkerbell got her fairy skill back, didn’t she, agree Mulan and her could find common ground on some of their experiences. And though Tink might have learned a lot in her years in Neverland, lost some of her hothead trait, she might now need someone and a task to lighten up. Could be she tries to play Cubid for Mulan but turns out she is the lucky one herself.
(and noting that Belle has been shown friendly with some supporting female characters but seems to have become rather isolated lately, something not unrealistic with intense relationship, but something to discuss in another thread)
Hercules and Phil – interesting. I have only one small problem with it, the mentor -trainee relationship they have and with it some age difference. It would perfectly reflect on ideas the Greek philosophers had, but I am not so sure how well that would be taken in our modern times. Teacher – pupil, whatever gender, comes with problems of dependency.
Hercules and Archie – can’t help it but see Archie rolling his eyes at first, he is a patient guy, but Hercules might drive him mad for a moment – which of course as trope is a good start for a true love, the”first I can’t stand you but I am oddly drawn to you” trope or so, or opposites are meant for each other (psychological crap but still a common fictional trope)
Emma and Megara – sure could bond over a drink binge trying to forget their broken hearts.
A romance for Granny – would love that.
ideas I had just last night
Archie and Gus – could have been, but yeah, I know, they killed Gus off. Too bad.
Maleficent and Aurora’s mother -(yes, I know I had obviously a kind of morbid phase last night) I wouldn’t trust these show writers with such a delicate story, but there might be a less ignorant and more sensitive fan fiction writer for such a tragedy to write, because, yes, would be a tragedy. Thought of them falling for each other when they were young (and Maleficent a fairy), but the parents and the fairy leader Blue drove them apart, making it look like a betrayal to each (yes, look, I am ready to make Blue a shady fairy for that!). So love turned to hurt, and Maleficent became for a while obsessed with destroying her former love’s family and happiness any way she could. Right, typical broken heart woman turns fury trope, so really needs a good writer to make it good and not some trivial crap. Partially inspired by the recent Maleficent live action movie (more live actors, was there any scene not at least enhanced with CGI?)

Never would have considered those two, but then you say it and it makes a lot of sense.

Keeper of FelixOctober 3, 2014 at 4:06 pm #284111FelieParticipantI don’t usually ship anyone but I would so love to have Elsa meet and fall for Merida.
Could you imagine the ratings exploding if word got out that Once had a canon lesbian relationship? Especially if they got someone as gorgeous as Karen Gillan (that Scottish accent!) to act alongside the stunning Georgina Haig.
I think Merida’s bold and wild (feral?) personality would be a delicious contrast to Elsa’s reserved timidity. It would give the writers a chance to experiment with Elsa as Merida could be used to introduce her to things outside of her comfort zone.
Plus I can see Merida and Anna being really good friends (going on mad dangerous adventures together, spurring each other on to do things that would give Elsa and Kristoff cardiac arrest if they found out what they were up to).
And Sven would have a new horsey play-mate too!!!
I am in love with this theoretical couple so much.
