Were you as surprised as I was that Jafar turned Amara into his famous snake staff? Obviously Jafar needs it for his spell with the genies but will Amara ever be able to break free? Did Jafar really ever love Amara or was she just a means to an end?

But it’s interesting that she’s his staff. She took him in as a child and taught him dark magic and then he turns around and does this. It also looked, by what I saw, that they had a bit of romantic thing going on, but that was without sound. Which is kind of creepy considering their beginning relationship.

November 7, 2013 at 9:48 pm #222037RumplesGirlKeymasterJust before she died, Amara said: “you love me.” To which Jafar responded, “no you love me,” which I think implies that Jafar never loved Amara and had been planning to do away with her from the start, just as soon as he had magic and a plan.

Could that mean she will come out of the staff in the future.

Ooooh. I did not. Good observation! I wonder if it’s possible somehow for the two of them to communicate. Jafar is powerful but so was Amara. What if he needs her help still?

I actually said aloud, seconds before we saw it happen, maybe she becomes the staff and boom! It happened.
I hope Amara breaks free somehow. Clearly, she’s still in there since we saw it blink. I wonder if maybe she shares a psychic connection with Jafar or still has some power left.

I really have to give props to Naveen. It confused me at first when we saw the adult Jafar, that he seemed like a nice person and not at all like the little boy in the first act.
And it really seemed like he loved Amara, though I figured early on, something must have happened to her in the flashback because we don’t see her in the present. I thought she was going to back stab Jafar and she was the reason he wanted all the genie’s wishes. To bring back his love, her.

That’s been my headcanon since the beginning: that he lost his true love, turned evil and now wants to break the laws of magic and prevent her from dying and from his decline into madness.
And then he went and turned her into a golden snake staff.

I said this in the favorite moments threads, but there was a definite Cora/Rumple vibe going on here. But with a reversal of genders.

Seeing Jafar go from a little boy to the lover of Amara was really twisted. It’s like how Regina looked at Greg Mendel and said something like, “My how you’ve grown.” I just got all sorts of creeped out from the way Amara and Jafar’s relationship developed from master – apprentice to lovers. It was similar to Cora and Rumple, but at least she was a grown woman when their relationship started. Jafar was still just a child when Amara took him under her wing. Ick. But yes, props to Naveen for playing a conniving Jafar. I didn’t expect him to backstab Amara; I thought it’d be the other way around.
