Thank you Phee. I totally thought Titania and Oberon from Midsummer Night’s Dream and tried to search for the illustration, but couldn’t find it. And Shakespeare seemed strange to have in the book anyways so i just decided it must be some obscure fairytale that i don’t know. Thank you.
And thanks also mia for finding that story. It is again the golden bird. That story has been on multiple pages. It makes me think the book is changing, but maybe we just aren’t supposed to notice. It does seem like they are using the text as a place holder. They used the bit about Snow in her hideaway on more then one page and used this golden bird text on more then one page.

Oooo-k. So Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and a line from The Golden Bird.
I have a new theorie. I think they use that story as a place holder text, like the Lorem Ipsum. Kitsis&Horowitz probably know the fans will take a close look at whatever they get their hands on, so they use the same story so as not to give anything away.Highly likely! Either that or it’s got some super secret relevance. So either it’s meaningless or very meaningful. Which doesn’t help us much. LOL

No worries. 🙂 It does seem odd to have Shakespeare stuff in the book. His writings weren’t exactly stories, rather plays and sonnets and whatnot.

April 17, 2012 at 7:14 pm #142689miaParticipantI know the feeling. The problem with these things is that if you don’t really know what you’re looking for, not even google can help, lol.
I simply googled the text btw and thus came across The Golden Bird. 😉April 17, 2012 at 11:34 pm #142724charmingParticipantCan anyone say or spell red herring. Those have red herring all over it. Like all red herrings they can remain so until one day when we least expect it there it is a real storyline.
April 17, 2012 at 11:47 pm #142729hjbauParticipantI can’t imagine they would do Shakespeare, but they might have those character names in passing. Like having Pongo be the dalmatian. I don’t think they are ever going to do 101 Dalmatians, but i think it is a good passing reference.

Yes,I agree doing a story on Pongo would be like them doing a story on the bluebird.

The theme and message of the book is “Hope.” The blue fairy was desperate when she spoke to Gepetto about Snow’s child being the savior. The Blue Fairy was the only FTL character to have witnessed most of the stories in the book – an important point. She works in the school so she could have easily placed the book. The blue fairy mentioned she “had to make preparations with the other fairies” before the curse reached them in the castle. Could she have created the book from magic?

I don’t think the book changes. The stories are all from a different time/space, somewhere in the past, and seem to written by someone who have seen them happen or heard of them – I like the Blue Fairy/MS theory, specially after ep.20.
So, unless the writers (of the show) are going to a very intricate path, I don’t think current events change to pages. And about the names, well, most of the fairy tale book are written in this particular style, and most often not all of the names – if not none – were told. Like this story, from the Grimm’s book –
“There was once a widow who had two daughters—one of whom was pretty and industrious, whilst the other was ugly and idle. But she was much fonder of the ugly and idle one, because she was her own daughter; and the other, who was a step-daughter, was obliged to do all the work, and be the Cinderella of the house. Every day the poor girl had to sit by a well, in the highway, and spin and spin till her fingers bled…”
And the story goes on and on and the girl is always “the girl” The poor girl”, etc. So it’s possible that the book is not written in the same way as we hear the flashbacks from FTL, but more, flourished. Also, I think there’s more presented to the spectators as there’s presented to Henry, at least details.
