Ok, so, my theory, for now is, the book was not written. Not that it would make a lot of difference, but I think it could have been made with magic and/or memories, before the curse. I’m inclined to think it was BF/MS because it seems more plausible that she would know all the stories, since fairies seem to live ‘above’ people and be aware of what’s happening everywhere. And she knew about Rumple and the real character of the curse, so she could’ve came up with this magic book, something that could “self-write”, that would contain all the stories, including those happening AS the curse strike – for me, this is something that could explain why she’s not telling everyone who could help her: she may not be aware now of FTL and the curse.
I don’t think Rumple has written it. I can’t tell you exactly why, but I feel the way things are depicted doesn’t sound like Rumple. Specially all Snow/Charming story.

If so, then Regina must’ve written the book, perhaps with Rumple. Yet in the pilot, Regina seemed genuinely surprised by the book’s existence..unless her surprise was at Henry’s acquisition of the book.

Yeah I am likely to go along with you except in the Pilot she knew absolutely nothing about the book which she took from Henry and read it cover to cover only to find out that the last few pages were torn out. Does that sound like the actions of someone who wrote the book though??? Wouldn’t she just say oh that book? if she wrote it?? Rewriting the story seems to be a figure of speech, meaning starting anew.

He’s the grand puppetmaster, that we know of so far. And as others have stated, I don’t think he’s mentioned in the book at all, even though he’s involved in almost all of the stories. Why, if the BF wrote the book, would she leave Rumple out of the book?
Keeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.

That is good point. Gold/ Rumple wanted all of this to happen. It seems as if everything going according to plan. If the BF wrote the book she would have included Rumple’s story. It seems as if the book was meant to help those who read it but Regina was not suppose to have seen it. Rumple seems to be missing from the book. Either he is the author or he tampered with by removing any story about or with him in it.
May 8, 2012 at 11:59 am #145951hjbauParticipantThere are other things missing from the book as well. And there are multiple episodes where they don’t show anything from the book.

An actual book of Fairy Tales written by Andrew Lang. With the exception of the Pinocchio story, the Midas story and the Mad Hatter, all the fairy tales used in OUAT are in the Blue Fairy Book including Rumpelstiltskin.
In the Blue Fairy Book, there’s even Snow White and Rose Red, although this Snow White is a different character from the Snow White and Prince Charming tale and that story is actually in the Red Fairy Book. But the Blue Fairy Book, does have Little Red Riding Hood as well as Prince Darling. It even has the Genie and the lamp.
Andrew Lang published twelve different colored fairy books, the first was the Blue Fairy Book. I guess I’m saying my theory is that the Blue Fairy did write the book and this is the show’s version of “the” blue fairy book. If that’s the case, then maybe there could be other storybooks out there in the OUAT-world.
May 13, 2012 at 12:05 pm #146492charmingParticipantRegina definitely did not write the book. She knew nothing about it in the first episode and even read it. Rumple or the Blue Fairy I would wrote the book at this point. Until they suggest otherwise these two are my top choices for the author of the book.
