A few questions to consider and discuss below:
– What were the biggest surprises for you?
– What episode are you most disappointed to see go?
– Why do you think the episodes in the Top 10 and Bottom 20 were the episodes they were?
– Will these results change how you vote in the next round?
The Round 3 Poll is now Live!! Remember, VOTE ONLY FOR YOUR TOP 20. There have still been a few people going over. Double and triple check! Since we had less votes this time around, I’m going to leave this poll open until Thursday at 7 P.M. Central and see if that helps. The Bottom 20 will be eliminated again, and any episodes receiving only 0 or 1 vote will be automatically be eliminated. Happy Voting!!!!

ParticipantSo we’re still voting for twenty? Since several of the episodes I’ve been voting for were just eliminated that will require me to vote for episodes I’d previously passed over. Not that there aren’t still good episodes left, but now I’m curious as to how that will effect the next round since it’s unlikely that I’m the only one who lost episodes in round two.
Excellent top 14 so far!
Round three votes sent in.

Keymaster3×13 – Witch Hunt
Aww man. That’s actually in my top 20. Gotta readjust then!
However, the rest don’t really surprise me. Those are all episodes that rank further down for me.
Why do you think the episodes in the Top 10 and Bottom 20 were the episodes they were?
A think a commonality in the top 10 is that they’re all strong character episodes; they may not do a ton to advance the plot of that particular season but they all showcase and help nuance the characters.
The Round 3 Poll is now Liv
Voted!

Yes, I lost a few episodes too. Next round, we’ll only vote for our Top 15, and lose a minimum bottom 15.

I agree. I know a lot of feel that Once has the potential to be at its best when its fleshing out its characters. Even when the writing quality has gone done, we’ve stayed for the characters they made us grow to love.

Participant– What were the biggest surprises for you?
I’m very surprised to see “The Stranger” go. It was in my Top 20 and I thought it was more popular than it was apparently. August was one of my favorite character’s of S1, and I thought the payoff to the mystery of his identity was worth it, and not completely predictable. The scene where he shows Emma his wooden leg and she can’t see it because she doesn’t want to see it is one of my favorites too.
I’m also surprised “The Song in Your Heart” still isn’t making it to the Top 10.
– What episode are you most disappointed to see go?
“The Stranger” and “Heart of Gold.” “The Stranger” for the aforementioned reasons, and “Heart of Gold,” because I love a good twist, and Zelena posing as Marian was one of the longest and most surprising twists for me. I do understand why it went though, due it cheapening Neal’s death for some, and I do love Neal and Swanfire.– Why do you think the episodes in the Top 10 and Bottom 20 were the episodes they were?
I do find it interesting that all of our mains’ backstories – except for Zelena, and Henry – are represented in the Top 10 – Rumple, Regina, Hook, Belle, Snow, Charming, Emma, and Neal. It also says a lot for Sebastian Stan that his episode origin episode is so popular when he was only in 6 episodes total with only 2 of those being him in flashbacks.
– Will these results change how you vote in the next round?
Yes, since 2 of mine are gone, I’ll have to change things a bit.June 14, 2017 at 9:56 am #339572thedarkonedearie

For me, Sebastian Stan was a big loss for the show.

ParticipantI think one of the problems with the show is that they don’t really do big character episodes anymore. In the first season, they introduced the characters and did a lot of development with them in each episode. They just don’t do that anymore. The characters have remained static for a really long time at this point.
It is really bizarre. It is like the writers are so afraid of changing their characters and maybe upsetting the audience that they don’t do anything. Character development is key.

I wouldn’t say they are afraid of CHANGING their characters, since almost all of the mains have done bizarrely OOC things; I think they just decided PLOT! was more important than character development. Which is a huge shame.

ParticipantThe characters definitely do really out of character things, but they also have huge life alternating things happen to them and pretty much just return to exactly the same people at the end of each season. At least, this has been the case for awhile. Emma has looked like she is dying and been worried about being the savior for seasons and seasons. Snow and Charming have done nothing since Season 3. Regina has been on the good side, but sarcastic for awhile. Rumpel has been waffling about whether or not he wants power or family since forever.
Emma and Regina are probably the most different now then they were in Season 1. But it has been seasons since they have had any real growth. Emma was learning to let people in in Season 1 and 2. Rumpel found Neal and started becoming part of the family in Season 2. Snow and Charming have really done nothing since Season 2. Regina made her turn around in Season 2 and 3.
The writers definitely care more about plot then character, so the characters go way out of character in service to the plot for an episode or so and then return to center at the end without having learned or changed from their experience. The characters have good moments at times, but there is no real growth, not anymore.
