I’ve seen this theory but I’m not sold. I think Rumple is already a lot of characters: Rumple, Cinderella’s FGM, The Crocodile, The Beast. And while Bobby could pull it off, I think it’s too much for one character. And I also think that Rumple’s “undoing” are the loss of his powers.

My major problem with the theory is what about the story of the wizard of oz? It should already have occured. I know the story of snow white and others (like sleeping beauty) happen fairly recently within the story. But I feel like the story of the wizard of oz should have already occured in the show. So I don’t think Rumpel is the wizard of oz…..

BUT…… Its possible he is a wizard of Oz instead of “the” wizard of oz. Perhaps a new one? With the witch preoccupied and the previous wizard gone, who’s to say Rumpel hasn’t taken over. He is wearing the cuff tho so he may not have any magic… But the wizard of oz doesn’t have magic as it is 😛

The original Oz story is about gaining or recovering something that’s missing (home, heart, brain, courage). The OUAT version could be about resisting the return of what’s missing. Rumpel said no to magic in an emotionally-charged moment; now he has to do it long-term.

Yeah that’s an issue as well. We know Rumple was looking for the ruby slippers 10 yrs before the Curse hit the EF and that they had already gone back to our world, meaning that Dorothy’s story had already happened.

This is the exact same argument I used to make for Nealfire Pan–Neal was A Pan but not THE Pan. But I would really prefer that they don’t heap anymore characters on to Rumple.

I’m hoping Dr. Whale is the Wizard. From the beginning, so much of his inventions/technology had a very Oz feel to their designs. Plus, he brings a type of sympathetic scoundrel aspect to the role.

 

Not to mention, Whale comes from a land without color, like Dorothy would.

Whale makes the most sense if they want to make the Wizard someone we already know.

However, I’m really starting to think that the new mystery man–Christopher Gorham–is going to be the Wizard

I think Rumple could’ve gone to Oz, too. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if he turns out to be the wizard. In fact, if Rumple’s dark curse has been “undone” then he might even have to fake being a wizard to get home. However, I’m now endorsing the theory that Christopher Gorham’s character is the Wizard of Oz, so I have two possible, yet competing theories in my head now.
