COULD Dr Whale have been something evil who had no choice in FTL . IN SB he is a doctor with stature and some respectability; he may have found he liked that situation. I think that is why when he “remembered everything.” He could have been having shock because he did not like his old self….He had some choices to make.
I think that every person in SB is going to have to wrestle with personal demons and make a decision on how they are going to proceed… follow the new path of the SB lives or as they were in FTL.
Nonnie,

But who in their right mind would make a deal with Rumpelstiltskin? He can be just as manipulative as Regina–even more so. Yet there are desperate people who are willing to deal for happiness. We’ve seen Snow White, Prince Charming, Cinderella, and Jiminy all going to Rumpelstiltskin for a solution to their problems, when he was already well-known for being a dark, corrupted, evil person.
For one, Jefferson. We saw in the finale, that the only reason why he released Belle was so that Mr. Gold would find her and seek revenge against Regina. I see Jefferson becoming a very close ally of Mr. Gold’s in season 2. And he’d be a very powerful ally to have. If Mr. Gold discovers that Baelfire isn’t in this world, or better yet, if the town decides to go after Mr. Gold for creating the curse, all he has to do is jump through the magic hat and disappear. Regina was very short-sided when she let Jefferson slip through her fingers, because he’s definiteley someone who you want on your side.
And all of the evil allies that Regina screwed over in Fairytale land would theoretically go over to Mr. Gold’s side. They’re probably just as angry at Regina as Rumpel and the Charmings are.
Mr. Gold has a better chance at gaining allies because Regina has pushed away even her most trusted allies. That’s going to come back to haunt her season 2.

Regina betrayed Jefferson once, and yet he was desperate enough to go with her again–until she repeated her old mistake. And as for Jefferson freeing Belle, he didn’t seem to really want to get close to Rumpelstiltskin. He just told Belle to find him (and he probably gave her directions to his place) and that’s it. Plus, he only allied himself with Rumpelstiltskin after having done the former a service–he wouldn’t dare go to him for a favor, knowing he would have to pay a price. He wants Rumpelstiltskin to be the one that owes him.
As much as Regina may have made many people miserable, we don’t really know how she treated her remaining allies. She may have been very generous to them–King George was made a DA, and Doctor Whale (who may or may not be on her side) was made a doctor.

Having watched “Broken” (spoilers ahead so beware) I think Regina is going to do as Henry has asked and find Emma and Snow. It’s the only way she is going to be able to see Henry again, to make him believe her when she says she loves him.
I don’t think she will necessarily turn good, she is just too delicious as an evil character for that, but I think there will be elements of her that will be redeemed. She will work against Rumple and for the good guys, but never actually be a good guy. Everything she will do will stem from her love of Henry.October 1, 2012 at 12:56 pm #154859antbeeParticipant@SwanQueenOncer wrote:

Sure she’ll act like she’s helping and she might help a little bit, and it might even fool Henry at least for a short time. However, I think if she had a choice between just leaving them there forever if Henry never found out, or helping them, I think she’d still choose the former. So I’m not expecting her to really put a lot of effort into helping them.
I know there was some progress from her in “A Land Without Magic”, but I think that was because Henry’s life is on the line. If it’s just his feelings towards her, I think she’s still deluded enough to think that he’ll come around especially without Emma and Snow around.
We’ll see though I guess.

After seeing “Broken” I think is is more focused on getting Henry back then getting revenge on anyone now, and Henry has made it clear that he doesn’t want anything to do with her if she’s still evil.
Rumple has already shown that he takes longer to learn his lesson and it will be interesting to see what happens when he has both Bae and Belle to act as morality pets. But even then I think it will take at least a season or two for him to change.
And the Charmings, Regina and Rumple may all have common ground in Henry if Bae is his dad. It would be interesting to see a plot line where they all have to work together to save him.
Don’t worry though, there are plenty of people who can act as big bads in seasons to come. There’s the wicked witches from wizard of Oz, the Red queen, and maybe even the white witch from narnia (probably not, but it would be interesting to see none the less).
