–Why did Hades choose those three?
In the movie, Hades is obsessed with changing fate. Looks like he’s taking a literal approach here.

Not only is it one half of each couple meaning one won’t leave without the other, but it also banks on male pride. Whilst Charming probably can’t leave without Snow because of the shared heart thing, it would look bad on Hook and Robin if they turned around and went “see yah” to Emma and Regina. If it had been the male names on the gravestones, they would have probably convinced the women to leave because EF society is patriarchal and sets gender roles eg men are the “protectors” whilst women keep the home running smoothly. This is why Spinner RUmplwas looked dowon by the rest of his villiage because he didn’t fit the traditional gender role that sociey expected of him.

Hook can’t leave either way, because he’s still “dead”. Until Emma can figure out what needs to be done, the only way he can leave for the living world is if he trades places with a living soul. Even then, though, it looks like none of them can leave without that boat.
March 21, 2016 at 5:23 pm #319746RumplesGirlKeymasterDoes it mean that they both can leave, or instead that they both can not leave??
What a fantastic question. A and E keep promising to explore the consequences of sharing a heart.

Yeah…if Snow dies, David dies…they share a heart, and they can’t get around that one. Hook is already dead, and Emma and Regina are marked for death. That leaves only Rumple, Robin, & Henry and I think Rumple will take this opportunity to get Papa Pan out of the UW, thus taking the place of one of the heroes.

My thoughts exactly. Emma: most powerful light magic. Regina: also experienced in magic, and can back Emma up with either light or dark magic. Snow: Hopey hope, which is something that the souls in the Underworld need to finish their business and move on.

But then….they are the biggest threat to Hades so wouldn’t he be glad to rid of them by sending them back to the land the living?????

Can trapped souls affect Hades though? Even the “contraband” of Hope from Snow…how does it actually affect Hades unless his power and life are tied to the upkeep of the Underworld.

But seriously we know they aren’t going to answer all these questions. In fact, they will likely simplify everything and get it as watered down as possible.
March 24, 2016 at 10:55 am #319957SlurpeezParticipantTo clarify, it was Hades (not Rumple) who chose which three characters would stay in Underbrooke.
From 5×14 “Devil’s Due”:
Hook: Hades told me to pick three names and chisel them onto the headstones. He said whoever I picked would remain in the Underworld. I refused.
Regina: Well, it looks like he did the picking himself. Before Hades discovered Belle was pregnant, Hades and Rumple made a deal for Rumple to return home in exchange for Rumple destroying the boat so the others couldn’t return to SB. Rumple then pushed Milha into the River Lethe to cover up the deal, but Rumple wasn’t compelled to chisel the names of the heroes.
