I haven’t had time lately to keep up with the forum or podcast, so forgive me if this has already been covered. But I am curious, and have to ask.
Is this the first time we learned that Alice’s cursed name is Tilly? Why is this her cursed name, and what connection does it have to Alice in the books?
I am partly asking because I noticed some … *not* coincidences … that are very unrelated to the show, so I won’t get into those right now. First I would like someone to fill me in on the name. 🙂

From what I can tell, it’s short for Matilda and it means “mighty in war.” I really don’t know why they chose it except that there is a Tillie in the Wonderland books, in a very small side story the Doormouse tells to Alice.

The dormouse connection seems to have been implied towards the end of the episode by Rogers, who described Tilly (after she calmed down due to her meds) that she was now “quiet as a dormouse”.

Now I would like to make some comments about what this juxtaposition made me notice about a completely different show, but those comments should probably be in a different thread.
I notice the only thread here for Star Trek: Discovery is this one. Should I post comments about the plot/characters there? Or should I start a new thread in “Everything else off-topic”?

If it’s about ST:Disc and OUAT (Alice, specifically)and any connections you see, then keep it here in an OUAT section. If you just wanna talk about ST: Disc then use the thread you linked above.

Tilly was actually Tillie, short for Matilda, who was actually named Edith but called Matilda or Tillie by Alice and their other sisters (Alice was the 4th oldest of 10, Edith was the 5th oldest, with one older sister, and possibly as many as 4 other younger sisters). As for why Edith was called Matilda, that I can not explain, but that is the convoluted and obscure reference being made by having Tilly be Alice’s cursed name. Definitely many more hoops to jump through than Rumple’s Weaver, Killian’s Rogers, Lady Tremaine’s Victoria Belfrey, Cinderella’s Jacinda, or even Drizella’s Ivy.

It’s about Star Trek and Alice in Wonderland, with OUAT as the jumping off point. I guess I will start a thread, and you can move it if needed. 🙂

Actually, why is Drizella called Ivy in HH? Is it just because Disney’s Drizella wears green? I know the name has some meanings meaning dewy or fruitful….

Around here, ivy is an invasive plant that creeps up the rightful vegetation, out-competing it for light and nutrients and weighing it down.

Hmmm. Makes me wonder if Drizella had a heavy hand in Ana’s demise.
