[adrotate group="5"]Isn’t it possible that the book has no real author to be convinced to grant the happy endings. I am thinking that the book could have been created as a semi sentient object that is is now outside of the original creator’s control. Finding this out could be a catalyst for Regina (and possibly Elsa) to write their own happy endings.

Everyone having happy endings is impossible. Emma made Regina an impossible promise because one person’s happy ending can easily contradict with another person’s happy ending.
For example, Regina’s happy ending is with Robin but so is Marian’s.

Given how A and E write their show, their happy ending will focus on some sort of romantic true love. But I agree with POM

Take a real-life scenario. Would anyone, other than extremists, argue Hitler deserved a happy ending? What about Stalin? What about Pol Pot?
No.
What if these people had done even one good thing amongst a lifetime of harmful decisions? After all, presumably these people who did horrible things like kill people could still love their children. Yet, was that one redeeming thing enough to counteract the terrorizing, unspeakable acts of evil? I’d argue, still no.

Those were pretty much my immediate thoughts during that scene as well…I had more to say, but for the sake of avoiding an argument I’ll just leave it at that. 😉
I think this whole arc is gonna come back to the question of “what is fate?” Regina said she wants to change her fate, Sidney said that was impossible, Regina insists it can be done if they can find the person who wrote the original fate of everyone in the book and make them change it. But in the end that will prove futile because you make your own “fate” by way of your actions, it’s not a thing that the Book’s author decides or controls. At the end of the day it comes down to the individual deciding to do the right or wrong things and where that inevitably leads them, so if Regina wants to change her fate, she’ll have to do it herself, and S4 will be her discovering that.

As a season arc for Regina, I think this is good – she has confronted that she was defined as the Evil Queen due to her actions, not because people just randomly hated her. Now she has to realise that a) she has to fight and strive for her “happy ending” rather than expect it to be handed to her on a platter and b) you make your own fate. It’s too easy to blame an omniscient author – so easy that it made me face palm so hard when Regina came out with it.
