The Frozen arc added some interesting info to the timeline. First, Ingrid enters the Land Without Magic in 1982, with little suggested time between when she froze over Arendelle and when the Apprentice shows her the door (though there COULD easily be a year or two in there). Second, when Anna learns how long Arendelle was frozen, someone says it was about 30 years. Third, we see Belle go to Arendelle shortly before her time in the Dark Castle (which is a major touchstone of that period of the timeline, and not just because I’m a Belle fan).
Most of that adds up just fine, BUT we have the issue of Roland’s age to contend with. He is supposed to be four (plus 28) in late March 2012 (I know, crazy, right? But A&E’s comments and a lot of analyzing suggest that’s about the right date in Quite a Common Fairy). I have him born in 1981 at the moment, which…doesn’t quite work out, though it’s close. I’m tempted to move the Frozen backstory & the start of Belle’s stay at the castle a bit earlier (which would allow for the Christmas headcanon) BUT the 1982 date is a problem then 🙁
So, hiatus-dazed people, what do you think?

(or: A and E don’t really care about the ins and outs of the timeline and working with generalities of dates and events instead of specifics)
(take your pick)

I know you were once a fan of the Dark Castle period encompassing Christmas…if I move it back by a couple of months and just headcanon that Ingrid took a while to convince the apprentice it would be a good idea to send her Elsewhere…what do you think?

May 29, 2015 at 10:59 pm #305185KebParticipantAnother (almost irrelevant, as I’ve decided weather only matters when they actually reference it, cuz they’re not careful about that at all) thing that does is puts the pre-Dark Castle Arendelle events in late autumn instead of early winter as they are in my current framework (because I’ve got DC time starting early March atm). Might work slightly better with the fact that it was all filmed in summer and looks it.

May 30, 2015 at 1:32 pm #305187PriceofMagicParticipantIs it possible that Belle started her stay at the dark castle in January/February time, so no Christmas, which is why she said she’d been there a couple of months when she was opening the curtains because it was almost spring?
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixMay 30, 2015 at 8:10 pm #305188KebParticipantWell, she definitely started her stay in winter and ended it in spring. Currently I have March to May 1981 as the dates, but they’re hardly solid and I’m leaning toward the evidence showing a slightly longer stay than 2 months + an earlier start to the stay (which actually helps with Roland’s age some, because he would’ve been born 32 years before May 2012 at my present calculations).
But the thorn in adding a couple months to the start of Belle’s stay (and the desire to encompass Christmas is ENTIRELY based on liking the Christmas midquel to Beauty and the Beast, purely a fan thing, but DOES allow for the summery weather in the Frozen flashbacks) is Ingrid entering our world in 1982.
It screws with the math because she clearly froze Arendelle around the same time as Belle went to the Dark Castle. If I push that time even earlier than the present calculation, that’s even longer unaccounted for in the space between freezing Arendelle and leaving Fairy Tale Land.

May 30, 2015 at 8:52 pm #305189TheWatcherParticipantQuestion: how do we know Belle was at the castle during winter and/or Christmas? O.o I dont recall seeing any snow or Christmas wear… Unless I am mistaken?

Nothing in Once. It’s just a nice Beauty and the Beast (animated + sequel) fan thing.
But winter? When she first goes, the castle’s covered in snow in Skin Deep. It’s ridiculously freezing during the Robin Hood Hunting episode of Lacey. And in Skin Deep, when she pulls down the curtains, she says “It’s almost Spring.” The day she leaves for town, she tells Rumple she’s had “a couple of months to look around.”
So it’s definitely winter around the time she goes to the Dark Castle. When in winter is what I’m trying to decide.

May 31, 2015 at 8:52 am #305193RumplesGirlKeymasterGenerally “couple” means two, but I personally find that hard to reconcile with all the plot that happened at the Dark Castle + development of feelings. So I’d say longer than two months. Previously best guess was three? Given how it’s almost spring, I’d say that Belle has to leave the castle for good around “March.” I’d put her going to the castle in mid to late December to account for all the plot and relationship development.
