Hehe, I only made the comment about the clothes not being German, ’cause I am. ;P
The design is based on the Jägerhut (hunting hat) or Trachtenhut (traditional clothes hat) which are part of the traditional clothes of the regions of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria (both in the south of Germany). They may have some special name in the different dialects, but I couldn’t find any.
I liked the touch with the hat, escpecially since the Grimm brothers come from Baden-Württemberg and the Black Forrest was the inspiration for the forrests in their stories. 😀

I looked at the still photo, and I can see how the queen’s outfit coul be german. You can google “images of german hats” and hats that look similar to the queen’s will pop up. I think that the writers did try to make her look german because Hansel and Gretel were german in the origional fairytales.
I’m thinking that too. I studied the dress a bit more and I think, the top part is separate from the dress, like a leather wrap.
Yeah that would make sense. I like the leather gloves shes wearing, but I dont know if thats german or not. They Could just be some evil queen twist to the outfit.
I know very little about GERMANIC styles of clothes but I do think they would assume the current fashions of the time period, especially among royalty. I do think that the writers and costume designers do follow a general time line of European clothing in order to show different times in FTL.
THE first OGRE wars seem to be dating from the Dark Ages about 1200 to 1600s . Europe was a feudal system of serf/ overloads.
Snow/ PC James/ EQ all seem to be of a much later time period similar to the 1700s. Of course there are regional differences as the costumes in Italy were different from France, different from English, different from German etc. ( Germany was not a united region at the time but rather principalities.) Each region had their own particular influences on the costumes; but I do think they reflect styles and fashions in the real world.

I don’t really see that much difference between Rumpel’s time and the present in the fairytale world. Charming’s father still seems in control of his people in much the way that the ruler was in control in Rumpel’s time. We just haven’t seen many peasants in the present day fairtyale land. We have mostly seen the royal families so we haven’t really gotten a good look at the difference.
