Just a crack pot theory but I was thinking that maybe just maybe Ariel will be one of the mermaids in Mermaid Lagoon along with her sisters and that Hook may eventually become Prince Eric. I agree with you about Ariel and Mermaid Lagoon. It’s too good for H and K to pass up. Hook becoming Prince Eric might be interesting, but I think season three is going to see some serious CaptainSwan at least for awhile. I think Hook is going to become a major player and we’re going to see him as a very sympathetic character and I think Emma’s going to help with that. And then it will end and SWANFIRE can happen. But I also see Hook eventually being with Regina.

I think that someone like Ariel would be good for Hook because she is fiesty enough for him but I think she would help him let go of milah at least as much as she could.

It would just make so much sense since Adam and Eddie said in an interview somewhere that we probably would not see Ariel til season 3 anyways.
Here’s the thing about The Little Mermaid…in the Han Christian Anderson original, the prince marries someone else and the mermaid dies because that was part of the deal she made with the sea witch. Ariel’s happy ending with Prince Eric was invented by Disney. K&H could take the aspect from the original, of the object of the mermaid’s affection being in love with someone else, and twist that into Ariel being in love with Hook who is devoted to the memory of Milah. Part of Hook’s redemption arc could be him finally moving on from Milah, and Ariel finally getting her man.
One common thread in both versions of the story is that the mermaid saves her love from drowning when a storm hits his ship. And Hook’s getting to Neverland through a vortex, whirlpool, portal through the ocean, which could be the perfect setup for a situation on the Neverland end where a whirlpool opens up and in the chaos of the storm like conditions, Hook gets thrown in the water, (he’s only got one hand to hold onto the ship’s wheel with after all) and needs saving by a mermaid.
Not that I’ve given much thought to the potential of this storyline or anything. 😕 They’ll probably end up doing something completely different, but that’s my headcanon and I’m sticking with it until they show us what actually happens. 😆

I could see them having a torrid affair where they bond over how unfair it is to have one’s life ruined when someone evil rips out your true love’s heart and crushes it in front of you. But I think that because they’re both coming from such a damaged place, that’s not a healthy basis for a long term relationship.

The “certain mermaid” comment that was clearly a tease for her back in “Skin Deep” strongly implies that Ariel lives in the Enchanted Forest realm, as she is another fairy tale. Peter Pan, strictly speaking, is not a fairy tale and is a separate novel of its own right. The “squid ink” mentioned back in “Into the Deep” also implies that the ink came from Ursula (half squid herself), and yet another comment about a mermaid was made when it was brought up. Just because there are mermaids in Neverland does not mean that King Triton and his own mermaids reside there.

That’s all true but it also doesn’t mean that the mermaids/squid/ect that are in FTL are automatically Ariel and family. There can be mermaids in both realms. I just think given that we are going to spend a lot of time in Neveland in season 3 (most likely at least half the season) and how much the fans want to see Ariel it makes sense to combine the two. All those references could be tongue in cheek references to the popular Disney movie but not to suggest that the characters of that movie are in FTL.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 5, 2013 at 4:26 pm #177347PheeParticipantI’ve also considered that, and wondered if perhaps the underwater world is sort of a bridge between worlds, which is why Hook could travel through it to get from FTL to Neverland. If so, then there could be one realm for mermaids which is accessible from either side, so to speak. I think it’d complicate matters from a storytelling standpoint if they had Neverland mermaids and then somewhere else, is some other, completely different realm, have completely different mermaids. It means they’d have to establish two separate underwater realms and convince the audience that they weren’t one and the same. Given that it’s such a unique sort of environment, I think they’d wanna stick to just having one mermaid realm. And I think that the fact that there is actually a Mermaid Lagoon in Neverland is too fun of an idea for them to pass up, so they’ll have to use it. And mermaids have already been hinted at in FTL. So I think they’ll all be connected somehow.

The one thing that complicates the matter is that nobody can age in Neverland, which I assume would include the mermaids. I always assumed that if they do introduce Ariel, it will be via a flashback connecting to what Regina mentioned. That and the squid ink are still unanswered stories I would love to see. I doubt those mentions were just planted there with no further purpose in mind. Adam and Eddy have repeatedly said that they have a plan for Ariel, and they’ve hinted before that those mentions in previous episodes could connect to said plan. Though, the portal to Neverland that Hook created could have possibly brought a bunch of mermaids along for the ride, hence their existence in Neverland. Still not personally on board for Ariel being in Neverland, but all we can do now is individually theorize and wait to see the final results.

I like it too. And mermaids are “otherworldly” creatures anyway, so maybe they can travel between realms, which would open up the possibility that other creatures can move between worlds too. Like fairies. Like Blue, moving between FTL and Neverland to meet with Bae.

So true, I hadn’t even thought of that connection! Rumple used that well to bring back magic, so the Lake Nostos water had to have been accessible from our world’s side, but then it was also present in FTL too. It’s an already established rule, so why couldn’t Altantica exist in a similar form.
